Spanish youth unemployment stats (under 25s) INCLUDE young people in Higher Education, College, Uni, Skills Training etc. This is never reported by British media. If unemployment of the under 25s is at 12% (it is currently) then at least half of those numbers are not working obviously because they are studying. UK stats do not include students. Therefore, Spanish stats are misleading and not half as bad as the media suggests.

Talking about money - I (and everyone I know) shop in our local Spanish supermarkets and shoe shops etc. So us jubilados help the economy. BTW, here in Alfas del Pi, we have 6000 Norwegians! I live on a senior retirement community,. We are mixed - Spanish, Dutch, Swedish, Norwegian, Belgian, Scottish, Welsh.... all using local shops. ❤

Here's a thought....If the Spanish redistributed their huge police resource (circa 3 times per capita that of the UK in terms of boots on the ground) away from hassling legitimate visitors to Spain from Gibraltar, for example, to intelligence-led, strategic law enforcement, there wouldn't be a growing drug smuggling industry in the Campo Gibraltar and Costa del Sol.

If they just legalised cannabis, which is less harmful to society than alcohol (there is proper research to prove this)! they could just focus on class A drugs enforcement, which actually harmful to society. I was delighted, after i moved to Spain from the UK, that there's a more mature approach (where one can not be criminalised for consuming cannabis in private homes or clubs in Spain) than the UK. Literally, it's the only non-opiate drug that can help my failed back surgery pain, depression and other conditions I have. It's also an exit drug from class A drugs, not a gateway to them.

I think south Andalucia has the best weather, winters are mostly sunny and it rarely freezes. Summers can be very hot, I live at 750 metres above sea level where a slight breeze moderates the temperature. I tend to avoid the coast, parts of it are not very "Spanish."
