¿Quiero o necesito? Don’t make these common mistakes using the verbs “to want” and “to need” in Spanish. When English speakers use the verb “to need”, they have at least two options in Spanish, the verbs “necesitar”, and “querer”. In this video you will learn that “necesitar”, “to need”, is a verb that is used more often in English than in Spanish. This causes that when speaking Spanish, English speakers overuse the verb “to need”, “necesitar”. Their overuse of “to need” in English is understandable since “querer”, “to want”, could be harsher and impolite. Spanish students think this could also be the case in Spanish. But it is not. You have to remember that “querer”, “to want” is not rude in Spanish, if you use it in the right context and form. This video will show you when to use the verb “necesitar”, and when not use it. This video will explain to you why you may want to use the verb “querer” instead of “necesitar” in Spanish. You will learn that there is a big difference between what you “need” and what you “want” in Spanish. You will also learn to conjugate these verbs in past and future, and you will learn some fun and useful expressions with the verb “querer”, to want, and “necesitar” to need. So I don’t care if you don’t want to learn this topic because the fact is, you need to learn this topic in order to be fluent in Spanish!
If you learning Spanish and you are feeling like learning verbs today, watch my playlist with many lessons about Spanish verbs, Spanish tenses, Spanish verb conjugation, and common Spanish expressions using verbs:

Something confusing for me is estaba, estuvo, fui, era. How would they be used?
@rask004
@rask004 4 жыл бұрын
Spanish has permanent and transient "to be". Professions, Gender and personality are permanent; Moods and states, present events, and buildings (by developed usage) are transient. Ser is permanent being. Estar is transient being. Conjugations for Estar always begin with "es". Ser is highly irregular and you have to memorize all the forms. Spanish has "preterit" and "imperfect" past. Preterit for general past events, and imperfect for specific past-related things like interruptions, changes, requests about the past and so on. Estuvo is preterit past, transient to be, 3rd person "She was at school at noon." - "Ella estuvo en la escuela en el mediodía". Estaba is imperfect past, transient to be, first or 3rd person. "I/he was feeling happy until..." - "Se estaba sentiendo Feliz hasta...". Fui is preterit past, permanent to be OR to go, first person. "I was an accountant once" - "Yo Fui contador una vez". Era is imperfect past, permanent to be, first or 3rd person. "I/he was a builder until they fired me" - "Era un Constructor hasta que me despidieron".
