There are Spanish subtitles on all our videos. We made a video in basic Spanish to show how to turn the subtitles on: kzbin.info/www/bejne/pF6YameQqc-eatk These are the basics -click on cc to activate the subtitles and then click on settings (the gear icon at the bottom right) and choose the language. You can also open a transcript if that would be helpful. To open the transcript, go to the row below the title and click on the three horizontal dots ... (next to "save", at the far right). There is an option there to open the transcript and it opens on the upper right sidebar. Let us know if you any questions!

Thank you guys for the video. I have a question. Why Juan used pretérito indefinido (estuvo) to describe his weekend instead of pretérito imperfecto (estaba)?? I thought imperfect was used to describe situations. Sorry, my Spanish level is not so good

Great question! As you probably know, the preterite (estuvo) is used for actions that are completed in the past and the imperfect is used for a verb that is on-going at a moment in the past (like "It was raining") This is most difficult to grasp with the verbs to be (ser and estar) because they don't feel like actions. However, they can be completed or on-going like other verbs. In this case, both Pamela and Juan use "estuvo" because "el fin de semana" acts as a time limit (one of the triggers for the preterite), so the "being" was completed. It's similar to "Estuve en la fiesta por tres horas." The "being" (was) was completed. Hope that helps!

Why is this video labeled present tense when it uses mostly past tense verbs?

There are a variety of tenses in the introduction, but Juan narrates his story entirely in the present. There is "narrative present" in Spanish (as there is in English), and that is what Juan uses to tell the story of his visit. It's the section with built-in patterns and repetition beginning when he says "Te voy a contar." We tried to make it clear in the description that the present tense refers to the story narration not the entire video. Sorry for the confusion!
