Face-smacking=physical abuse. Lecture=emotional abuse. Grounding=annoying but not abusive. Spanking=pretty much the best way to go. It's quick, gets the point across, isn't abusive, and after a quick word or two just after, you're forgiven and as soon as the sting goes away you're none the worse for it.

I was born in the 90's, and so were most of my sibs. Two were born in the 2000's. All of us have had spankings, and most people can't get over how well-behaved we are. We go to resteraunts and my mom will get showered with compliments about how well-behaved we are compared to all the other kids that come there. When your young, spankings are needed as a discipline method. The youngest in our fam only gets it through his head that what he did is wrong when he's spanked. I am 1 of 8, btw

My dad spanked my brother so much, it was getting harder and harder for him to find a whipping stick that actually made my brother cry. He broke a ruler and at least 2 ping pong paddles from spanking him. I think the stick that actually worked was when he glued 2 rulers together. No, it wasn't abuse, it was that my brother would always claim that my dad didn't spank hard enough so he was giving the impression that it didn't hurt.

My mother spanked me with a wooden paddle that said "May Angels guard your tender tush, when Mother's temper you dare to push". Now I learned many lessons in life because of that paddle. I learned not to steal. I learned not to cheat, I learned not to break things to be spiteful, I learned not to bite, kick or hit people. Most importantly, I learned that if you do what is right, you don't get spanked. Prevention is better than a cure for a sore tush.

I'm 20 years old. I was born in '91. I got spanked. Not a lot, but enough. I'll say this much for my parents: it did the trick. I learned my lesson. My parents actually hated spanking me and actually would cry after doing it because they didn't like inflicting pain on me. Sure, I deserved it, but they never did it out of malice, only out of love. They wanted me to succeed in life. It's as simple as that.

I was spanked as a kid, too. Not often, and one of 'em I really deserved (broke into a couple's house with an older kid who dared me to come along). But, you also have to know what actually helps correct your child's errors (I knew someone who was unaffected by spankings, but was tortured by watching someone eat their favorite dessert while being "restrained" [AKA held on one of the parent's laps, hands over lap like a seat belt]. Care to guess how long ago that was?).

we dont discipline our kids and we raise rebels for society to deal with our parenting mistakes later on. some need it more/less than others, and it isn't the only method... it has to be one part of a wholistic multi-faceted approach of love (have you heard the saying "it takes a village to raise a child"), but as he said, "What do you think God made the butt for?" I dont think any child will agree with it - it's rare to find that, but as we grow up we are usually able to see a bigger picture. My father spanked us, but then afterwards he decided he was wrong and apologized for ever having done that... I lived my teen years in unbridled liberty basically, and that was not good... I'm still paying for that.

growing up, my parents spanked me and my brothers with a leather belt. And by heck we deserved it too. Now ppl tell my parents that their kids are the most well-behaved and mature kids that they've ever met compared to some kids nowadays. And we love (not fear) our parents! @gringgoguy I was speaking maybe too general. But most of people I know haven't tried spanking. Usually if u can get a good education in the society u live, u should have no problem with that. Bcuz that's what u learn at children daycare and at kindergarden, the fact that to live in a society, u need to submit urself to some rules. Now, obviously u need to teach the lesson and that consequences happen, but spanking is not mandatory.

My parents spanked me lots when I was growing up -- too often when I was little, and it began to lose its effectiveness for me. Instead of changing, I looked for ways not to get caught. And there were definitely times when I was spanked in or out of anger. While I approve of spanking for most children, as a parent you have to take it individually. It should not be the go-to method of discipline. I don't believe there is anything wrong with it when it is done right, not in anger, but out of love.

@jctp124 Where do you see the word SPANK in those verses? The Bible has over a dozen translations in the English language and has always been the subject of interpretation. You are referring to Proverbs, a section of the Bible that is part of the so-called Wisdom Books, meaning that it should be subjected to word study. The notion of inflicting physical punishment on children can’t be supported Biblically. Moreover, spanking began as a pagan activity steeped in eroticism.

It's by the grace of God that we are able to live forgiven of our "bad-ness." Jesus didn't just die on the cross, then COME BACK TO LIFE for no reason (which, might I add, is a historically true event) He conquered ALL bad-ness on the cross, and He gives us the chance to accept his sacrifice, so that we might live without death, or have eternal life.
