Thanks for this! As someone close to your age who chose the corporate route, I think about this all the time. When I was younger and chose this life path I wanted to prioritize having a family, and have a job that provided time and money to pursue my passion of music. Now my job has grown to be all consuming, not leaving any time for music. My family and I are dependent on my income for college, etc., so I can’t make any drastic changes. I’m trying to hold on to a dream that maybe in 10 or 15 years I can afford to retire and then spend time with music, but there is no guarantee that I’ll live that long or still have health or desire to play. It’s a depressing way to live! And it’s depressing to feel trapped.

@lonestarshawn thank you for tuning in and sharing your story Shawn, I can understand completely, sometimes life can seem cruel to put us on one side of things or the other..I'm actually in the process of writing a book about life, music, and how to keep the connection regardless of life choice...merry Christmas in the meantime:)

To some extent I share your thoughts. My solution was to vow to spend at least 30 mins per day first thing in the morning to practice. I don’t always manage it ( although sometimes I manage 60 mins). Not ideal but it’s something at leat least

@MartinLawson that's huge! If you optimize your time with awareness and focus with your time, 30/60 minutes can make a great difference!

hit a fork in the road and turned away from music to chase money, got to say these questions quite literally would have saved me 10 years if I had the courage to answer them. Getting back on track now, thanks for the reflections.

Thanks Dario for sharing your personal story. I saw the film a long time ago and was similarly moved by it. Your questions are valuable. Playing and discovering things on the guitar are wonderful joys in my life too, and sharing the music with peers is always thrilling. My group recently played for children and teenagers with autism, and it was exciting and humbling to experience their delight and interest in what we were doing. Yes, if we remember that the Now is all we actually have in life, that is all we need.

This is my current state - going from doing nothing to playing everyday. This is the first year I decided to take music seriously- plan to enroll in School of Rock this Spring.

Hello Dario, Thank you for your kind words. All my life, I was searching for "something " and, few years ago, I realised that I have had always a guitar behind me ( everywhere, anytime) telling me " It is me you are looking for". Now, I have organised my life with one week of work and one week of music. It appears to me that, maybe, WE are the instruments of Music. Meaning, music wants to express itself...so, when the instrument is ok, the grace could come Thank you again

A musician is a philosofer, I listened to your story very well. A very good question, what would you do for free? Like yourself it's playing music and I never take anything for granted. You are spiritualy rich when you embrace music, it has nothing to do with materialism when you truely love your trade. Our time on earth is limited so always use your precious time wisely.

@JazzgutsVGvanKampen totally agree! It's an amazing privilege to me, I try to cherish it everyday. It comes with challenge as you know but also great rewards:)

“What would you do for free?” Literally just offered a local band to play for free while I get better 😂 only other things are smoke weed, spread the word of God and spend time with my huskies.
