I have vintage Bose 601 series 1 speakers they sound better than the modern ones but, still fall short compared to some speakers within a similar era such as JBL L series, Pioneer HPM100, magnepan, etc. The sound stage is kind of lost due to direct reflecting nature and the highs are not as crisp as 35 dollar soft dome tweeters. I rather build my speakers instead of buy. It's a great way to get esoteric sound for less than a good used car.

I have a 240 buck sound bar with sub. Completely happy with it. Forget about buying this stuff but I would definitely like to roll in 10k, 50k, 100k plus systems just to compare. The sound bar and sub each have a power cord and 1 connection goes to my tv. The insane difference in simplicity is mind blowing. It makes me wonder how much of this is marketing and perceived value. As you read this remember: 240 bucks! Sounds great and everyone who hears gives it a thumbs up. I have listened to high end stuff and while it's excellent, it's not 20k more better. Imo.

A few months back, I would have posted a snarky comment on this video, calling it pretentious and over-priced crap. But after some experience with McIntosh, I have come to the conclusion that its a solid company that builds high quality products and stands behind their brand 100%. But above all, its a "value" product!! .......... I realize the terms "McIntosh" and "value" are rarely used in the same sentence.. but in my research I have found that the depreciation on Mac products is among the lowest in the industry. Some of the amp models like the MC-302/402/452 are in high demand always ; if you bought it used, and took good care of your gear, you are almost certain to recover 100% of your investment. That's amazing value imho! Especially since us Audiophiles always itch for an upgrade every couple years :)

There can be no end to debating the best system. At the end most audiophiles discus the critical missings in the system and forget to enjoy the music. But. !!!! If you hear the higher top end of a great audio Hifi system, music suddenly sounds magical. I find it interesting that they use a subwoofer system with the top of the line 2.1K speakers being fed 2,000 watts. You'd think at the close to or 6-figure price those speakers would produce more than sufficient BASS for home theater use. McIntosh can still display the subwoofer system with smaller speakers that may need more help with bass.
@rocketbrothers5404 жыл бұрын
This system doesn't need help with bass at all. The 2.1K speakers have more than enough bass to pressurize this massive room. I am running the speakers full range and still sending LFE to all 4 subs along with routing bass and LFE from other speakers which I am not running at full range to the subs. The subs are not only about the LCR :) When listening in stereo I am not using the subs, I can but normally don't. But also, having 4 subs on top of very excellent speakers is bad ass. How many have ever complained about more of a really good thing. Cheers Mark!
