Underated video, this confirms my bad running scooter (sym jet euro x 50, 2 stroke) had a ngk br6hsa new one in it after cleaning carburetor but was starting okay but bad throttle, come to find the company i bought the spark plug from gave me the wrong one, the original one is br8hsa after cleaning the carb and placing the old spark plug it runs much better so im gonna order the right one. Thanks sir!!!!

Hang on for a minute! Everywhere I read about sparkplugs hot meant less heat transfered into the head making the plug hotter, and cold meant more heat transfered into the head making the plug colder.

NGK heat range scale is reverse to industry convention for some reason 🤷

@@kyushaspeed that's not what I meant. You said the colder plug means less heat transfer and hotter is more heat transfer.

This thread deserves more attention @bence.gabor.slezak you are correct, a hot plug in any heat range scale is a plug with less thermal transfer to the engine head thus retaining thermal energy and operating temperature remains higher in the plug. A cold plug on the heat range scale allows more of its heat to be conducted into the head keeping it cooler. NGK make this quite clear in their own literature.

NGK 5's and 6's are great heat plugs for anything carbed on the street. Ferrari recommends 7's for my 250 GTE, and they are terrible unless you absolutely thrash the car. Stick B5ES or B6ES in there depending on your climate and she's a happy camper. It's incredible how many tuning issues are down to improper heat selection.

It makes perfect sense that in a racing application where the plug is firing several thousand times more per minute it is going to be hotter because of it. I normally go down 1 heat range from stock in my performance applications. Inspect your plugs, are they carbon fouled? You may have to rich a fuel mixture, to little spark advance or be 😱 burning oil. This is where having an O2 sensor in the system is helpful.

Also, can I just point out that you have it backwards in relation to heat transfer. A hot plug have more insulation and does not transfer heat to the head. A cold plug is cold because it uses the head to cool the plug better.

I may have miss understood but I thought you said you went from a 6 to an 8 because of fouling issues. Normally for fouling issues I believe you would go to a hotter plug. Ngk are great plugs I use them exclusively. The other brands if you go up a number you are going hotter. Ngk is opposite up anumber is colder. You should only move either way one number at a time and drive for a while. Normally the recommended plug is the best.

The deeper the electrode channel, the hotter the plug and lower the number with NGK. The electrode tip being further suspended from the base, the hotter the tip.

Long story short, stick with standard, and if someone sends you the wrong plug in a service kit, dont fit it and assume all is good, get at them, happened to me today twice on different bikes/service kits 😢😂
