2 years late, but yeah it's Kirby-influenced, Lake is a huge fan. After The Sequel has more obvious references.

​@@leothehuman_9476Yes Spark takes directly from Sonic , Kirby, and Ristar combined design wise. Several other games were inspiration as mentioned in the comments above for game mechanical and level design.
