METZ actually paid homage to Mark and covered this song not too long ago, it’s way beefier and of course not as good as the original but it’s still pretty cool. Glad at least one band is trying to educate this generation about the genius of Sparklehorse. This was the first song I heard from him way back in 1998, it was on a mix tape, started with pig, then st Mary, then sunshine. Instant fan.

It’s all the same song. He did that a lot, especially on Good Morning Spider. I think it was partly because he wanted to avoid it being a radio hit, he absolutely tore “happy man” to ribbons when he realized the label was gonna put that forward as the first single.

I meant ''the shit'' in a good way. but it was very much sceany in the sense that it very blatantly belongs to a scene: the 90's alternative/indie rock scene. sparklehorse is an undeground legend, he's very representive of 90's alternative american music. he colaborated with tom waits, PJ harvey, daniel johnston, dangermouse and all other trademark figures from that era.
