I've never really cared for celebrities... but the day Mark died I remember the sinking devastation. My best friend and I walked around Boston until it was around 2am, in silence just beside ourselves. Mark was a beautiful soul and his music will live on forever.
@zetetick3955 жыл бұрын
This completely echoes my sentiments, the death of Mark Linkous is perhaps the only 'celebrity' death that's ever truly affected me powerfully at heart.... I still carry it; not morbidly, just memory of a beautiful human who shared of himself with the rest of us. Suicide is always the cruelest death, for all those who cared - But it was his right to do so.....I just hope it wasn't done in a passing moment of pain, and was something long considered and done through rational personal choice. I suppose we will never know. I think Most people have it backwards: They say "Death is a thief - that takes from us" But it's just the opposite! _Life is an INCREDIBLE gift!_ Death is merely an equalizing, a settling of the accounts, And our bodies.... to create the fertilizer, in which new life is given its own chance to grow, and come to be, on this Earth, in the full unimaginable deep of planetary time. I don't mind the idea of my dissolving body molecules ending up becoming part of a tree, or moss on a mountain rock, or a fish-scale on the sleek flank of a salmon etc etc .....When my time comes, I don't mind the idea of returning home to the great mother, who gave birth to us and all this riotous, beautiful Nature - and becoming fully of it, once more....
@berisf4 жыл бұрын
that happened to me too... I had just seen the pixies for the first time... was walking around town with a close friend when I heard. I'm the same re. celebrities as such. I appreciate great artists but I love humans who are kindred spirits. Rare, special and unique. Mark Linkus- hes the reason I gave up all my occupations to focus solely on music. Was lucky to see him play. My daughter loves him too though she is like me- can only listen to him alone- something to do with how much he makes us feel :(

Imagine my devastation, my parents invited me to come watch him about a year before he died. I didn't go because i wasn't into them at the time. Started listening more after the gig, thought oh I'll definitely go next time. Devastated. Still, one of my biggest regrets.

Wow what a truly beautiful performance. Mark’s music was, and still is a part of my life. His death was a devastating loss for us all. If you are like me, a true admirer of Mark’s talents, referring to yourself as a “fan” just seems too generic. For the people who love Mark’s music.. we get it. We got him. We have all made connections to Mark, each in our own unique way, as his music plays like a soundtrack to our lives.

This has slowly become one of my favorite Sparklehorse recordings. How Mark managed to translate these feelings, or states, into music and words, I will never really understand. This, to me, is music from mental regions never made audible before. It is beautiful and miraculous, far, far away from being depressing. Thank you illskamsarchive, thank you Mark Linkous.

One of the the most vivid experiences I have ever had was finishing that book and then simply going outside for a walk.
