5th place Arsenal welcomed 11th placed Newcastle United to Highbury a week after being knocked out of the FA Cup at home to Nottingham Forest.
This was to be the first of 4 consecutive draws for Arsenal (eventually finishing 6th) while Newcastle would find form with only 2 defeats in 11 to finish a respectable 8th under Willie McFaul.
