I've lost monetization on this channel which I've had for over 18 years with no reason given for what I've done wrong. I rely on income from KZbin to help pay my bills as I no longer work due to health issues and losing monetization on my main channel has cut my income from KZbin by about 70%. I was on disability but that ended in early 2023 when I turned 65. I can't reapply for monetization until Sept. 15th. but I think this channel is done.

I am a diehard Frank Zappa fan since 1969. I say that because I’ve watched two of your reviews and I saw Frank looming in the background on both. Much like your experience with Kimono, I purchased Zappa’s Absolutely Free as a teen and also threw it in the trash and then later dug it out and fell in love with it! I only discovered Sparks when I first watched the documentary on Netflix late last year and was immediately smitten! Since then, I just can’t get enough of them. Exploring every album (only scratching the surface) has been great and I appreciate your commentary. I’m happy to say that in March I will be seeing them in Washington DC! Very excited. Keep up the good work, man. Oh and this week, my favorite songs are Good Morning and Hasta Manana Monsieur!

I first discovered Sparks last Summer and they have very quickly become my favorite band. I am even going to see them live at the Hollywood Bowl this Summer with my girlfriend (she also loves Sparks and even convinced me that we should get front row seats). Anyway, what I am trying to get at is that you are one of the few people on KZbin who talks about Sparks, so I have been binging all of your Sparks videos. I agree with a lot of your takes and have been enjoying. :) (my personal favorite Sparks track is "Sherlock Holmes" by the way).

Seeing them tomorrow in LA at the Walt Disney Concert Hall, I think they kicked off their tour there tonight if I'm not mistaken. Really hoping to hear Left Out in the Cold and All That from their latest album, and wouldn't mind a generous helping of legacy tunes from the '70s like Number One in Heaven and (going way back) Russel's often overlooked Saccharin and the War (I know that's a long-shot). Last year I saw a cover band perform Saccharin and they did a great job, but it just made me want to hear Sparks themselves perform it.

Very nice selection here Larry, I would agree with it too as a top 10 😁 however my current top 10 that i’m currently listening to on repeat, or 10 of all the favorites I can think of right now, are: Moon over Kentucky Don’t leave me alone with her Never turn your back on Mother Earth This town ain’t big enough for both of us Here in Heaven Calm before the storm Ride ‘em Cowboy Edith Piaf (Said it better) Johnny Delusional Pacific Standard Time That being said, I’m not sure I could disagree with a single list of favorites seeing as mine tend to circulate as well. But for now these are my go-to songs. Also, those ‘bloopers’ could be the beginnings of Canadian Heisenburg’s origin story 😝 Breaking Bad! Nah, I don’t think anyone expects you to get it in the first takes with these videos. For me it’d probably be like 50 takes before I find my recording ‘decent’, but to each their own. On the whole we tend to mess up or not be satisfied with these recordings, which is why we get bloopers ;) By the way, that’s awesome that Edgar Wright responded to you! I kinda envisioned it happening too, what with you two being big Sparks fans and all 😋

La Dolce Vita is probably my fave Sparks song ever, one that seems to slip through the net even though it's got all the elements to make an absolute classic (great lyrics, great melody, great singing, great electronics, great drumming, and has something of a meta-narrative to get you thinking more deeply too). Also in my Best of the Best list: Who Don't Like Kids, White Women (the most ludicrous song ever written tbh, so outrageous yet dripping with sarcasm), Academy Award Performance, Tryouts For The Human Race, When I'm With You, I Wish I Looked A Little Better, Progress, When Do I Get To Sing My Way, I Married Myself... so many, so many!

Can definitely say that you were the one that helped me get into Sparks many moons ago lol... As for a Top 10, I couldn't even imagine coming up with one. They have so many amazing tracks. Can definitely say that tracks like My Baby's Taking Me Home, The Angels, Falling In Love With Myself Again, Tits, Occupation, etc. would be high up in the ranks. The beauty of the band is that there's not really any wrong answers when it comes to a personal Top 10!

Such an interesting list. A couple of my favorites are on your top 10 (This town..., Up here in heaven) but I would have to think about others. It is tough to come up with only 10. I am seeing Sparks in San Francisco on March 11th (I cannot wait). I also fell in love with Sparks when they put out Kimono My House, and I did not throw the album in the trash. Instead, the album was the only thing I played for several months.

I think knowing This Town prepared me for hearing Kimono My House a few years later. A good intro to early Sparks is the Mael Intuition compilation CD which you can pick up for about £5 in the UK at least. At some point you should do a top 10 or 20 or 30 and include clips of the songs.

@@dominicaaaaa5547 you know it is such a freaky song but I’ve grown to love it…kind of nothing else like it. I think ‘Let the Monkey Drive’ is underrated too…I had a friend who lived in Santa Cruz, California for a few years. I drove down from Seattle to visit her twice. So I got to drive on the beautiful but terrifying Highway 1, which runs down the Californian coast. It’s a two way highway, right on the cliffs above the coast. Only driving through the Rocky Mountains in Idaho is more frightening in my personal experience. The concept of an irate chimp driving on highway 1 while the humans are messing around in the backseat…well, the man whose brain formulated that obviously is hilarious.

Not a clue what my top 10 Sparks songs are, but just as an example of how great they are, here's some alternative songs from the albums you chose. I love these songs as much, if not more, than your selections - which is not to say you're wrong, but rather that Sparks are bloody great. Two from Kimono My House - Amateur Hour and Equator (and chuck in Lost and Found too - why not?!) From A Steady Drip, Drip, Drip - Pacific Standard Time From Introducing Sparks - Forever Young (this definitely IS in my personal top 10) From the debut - Wonder Girl (have to get better acquainted with this album) From Angst in my Pants - the beautiful Sherlock Holmes (and I think the 1-2 of The Decline and Fall of Me into Eaten By The Monster of Love might be my favourite Sparks pairing) From A Woofer in Tweeter's Clothing - Moon Over Kentucky (the opening vocals remind me so much of Mike Patton) From Lil' Beethoven - The Rhythm Thief for me (I still don't really get why My Baby's Taking Me Home has struck such a chord with Sparks fans) From No.1 in Heaven - Beat The Clock And from Hello Young Lovers - The Very Next Fight (although this is another one I need to get more familiar with)

Sparks really is one of those bands that gets better the older you get. I first started listening at age 16 and I thought they were pretty good, but not AS good as Queen,T. Rex or the other pop rock groups I listened to. My main gripe was that Sparks didn't have as many "hard rockin'" songs as other 70s bands, but now I'm slightly older (turning 23 next month) and I realize that Sparks is way better than I previously thought. I actually think their discography is much better than Queen, T. Rex. and the like. They certainly handled the transition to synth music better than Queen, Bowie and even prog bands like Yes and Genesis. Anyways, my tentative top 5 is: "Dick Around", "Number One Song in Heaven", "This Town Ain't Big Enough", "Hospitality on Parade" and "Mr Bergman, How Are You?"

For me my love of Sparks stems first and foremost from the time they released Lil Beethoven.....that album captured my imagination. I laughed. I sniggered. I got a weird buzz. I soon got the best of cd. Was blown away. Went to see them on Lil Beethoven tour (I bought Balls cd from concert hall shop at the gig!) Started collecting based on my fave tracks on best of....and I've now heard most albums repeatedy over last 20 years....I have to do an every two years whole discography spin like I do with all my top artists...and saw them again on the album marathon tour doing my no.1 album Hello Young Lovers....❤️‍🔥 We. Holy reductionism, Batman! But it could be a fun exercise. Maybe you’ve already done it.
