So will this device be adequate to find which set of wires are powering a certain motor in an industrial seting? I see you can do it wirelessly which is important, we dont want to have to disconnect any wires to find where it ends

Could it do this same test on romex embedded in a 8" block wall? I bought one of the cheap $50 tracers on Amazon and it was useless.

Hi bill, trying to buy a basic/not too expensive multimeter that i can use for working in my cars and home. Mostly, I will be doing load test and continuity. What do you recommend?
@houstongordon9337Ай бұрын
Ideal 61-747 it's a great very well equipped multi meter that has alot of fantastic features that aren't offered on some fluke meters, I swear by them you can get em around 80-100 but it's worth every penny, the tight sight feature along makes it a fantastic choice

Does fiberglass insulation effect the tracing? Or is this only for interior walls with no insulation
@KinGIIRomE2 жыл бұрын
It will not effect it.
@SparkyChannel2 жыл бұрын
Fiberglass insulation won't affect the readings.

Sparky ....a viewer is wondering if a clamp meter will get a reading through gray pvc conduit as well as emt...is there a possibility of a video being made on this question??
@SparkyChannel2 жыл бұрын
When using a clamp meter, one must isolate either the hot or neutral to put the clamp around. Since both hot and neutral are in the various conduits, a clamp meter will not work while testing outside of a conduit.

How do you plug the one lead into tamper resistance receptacles
@SparkyChannel2 жыл бұрын
I'll have to show that on a video. It's not too difficult. They give you 2 single blades. You start with the black blade on the neutral side, then slip the red into the hot side of the TR receptacle.
@STV-H4H Жыл бұрын
Shove it in! The tamper resistant ones are not impregnable, just a means to keep less tenacious children from having to be buried at a young age. It works for idiots of all ages, but still isn’t completely foolproof. 😂

Just want to be clear when looking for a different circuit to plug into neutral does it have to be on a different breaker or any circuit will do?

No, the metal jacket will mess up the readings.

Hi! I have an off grid cabin that is wired 120 for generator power. Because it was built on rock, there is no ground. How can I locate the Romex? So far, I've been lucky when piercing the wall, such as when I installed cabinets, but I don't like to rely on luck with electricity!

Do you have cold water pipes that go into the earth?
@rodmartel31432 жыл бұрын
@@SparkyChannel no. We bring water in from the lake. Gas pump to 55 gal barrel and then gravity.

@@rodmartel3143 OK. Can you drive a ground rod into the ground anywhere. Even if you just had a 3' piece of ground rod and got it into the ground about a foot I think it would work as a ground for the tracer.

I am trying to locate a fault in some old tube and nob wiring, would this tester be helpful or is there another way to find this?
@SparkyChannel2 жыл бұрын
Hi Robert. The first thing I need to say is that knob and tube wiring needs to be replaced ASAP. Having said that, I don't know why the fault couldn't be found with this tool. There is a learning curve though.

Hello Bill, I'm not sold on this device. ... Why? 1.) It device takes too long to accomplish it's intended task of finding an electrical wire. 2.) And once it does find a hidden electrical wire, it fluctuates too much on the screen that it has found a wire. And, it doesn't 🚨beep when it is absolutely on dead center of an electrical wire!

Anyone can answer if they know. Is there a powered continuity tester on the market ?
@SparkyChannel2 жыл бұрын
Any good digital multimeter is powered by batteries and features continuity. For instance, a Fluke 117 electrician's meter.

@@SparkyChannel Thanks for the reply. I know if not safe to work on live current. But do you think there is a need for a continuity tester that works on live current?
@SparkyChannel2 жыл бұрын
@@richstarstar IMO, no.
@illestofdemall132 жыл бұрын
@@richstarstar You need a circuit tracer like the one in the video most likely to do what you are talking about. Otherwise, regular continuity is done only on unenergized circuits. There is no reason to leave power on if you want to test continuity.

Duh, the guy knows that. Romex is also a generic name, like xerox is a facsimile (photo image) of the original and FAX is the generic name for facsimile. Hoover is is a brand, but when you speak of vacuums or loose women, you say “she Hoovers like a real pro should!” 😂

What a weird comment, everyone and their grandmom calls it romex. Everyone knows it's non-metallic. Also technically your wrong as well, it's Considered "CABLE" Not wire as it has multiple conductors in sheathing.
