One key thing I didn't mention is your boost is NEVER used in sparrow flying, EVER. This allows your boost gauge to recharge when travelling.

im always holding shift, im always holding either a or d, when my left side goes up i double tap a but i just keep spinning, do i need to always be holding a or d?

dont hold shift. you only use shift to flip over onto your back. always hold a (depends which way you are facing but you should most likely be holding a)
