Man all I gotta say is you just had to be there… the community , the brotherhood , whether it be raids, trials, and nightfalls . That feeling you got when you and your brothers finally defeated the boss after hours of grinding was just something I’ll never forget. Had some of my absolute fondest gaming memories ever on D1. I was OBSESSED with D1. It was almost a lifestyle haha. I remember my favourite memories were gearing up for nightfall with your elemental gear, or spawning into the tower with 7 other players simultaneously when IB started. IB was chaos, thousands of PvE players on just for the power drops. It was a free for all. Running the lamps solo invisible on Crotas end after being useless in VoG as a Hunter main. I had to work in Qatar for 2 weeks and I remember calling my girlfriend and asking her to turn on my PS and directing her to xur just so I didn’t miss the gear. It was some of my most carefree years of my life and now, over 30 and married and with a baby… I wouldn’t change a thing from back then. I will never forget what D1 was.

God this was such a trip! Destiny changed my life, I had never played an online live MMO, never played first person and wasnt big into shooters. The only reason I got it was having huge FOMO because my group of friends who usually played The Last of Us together all started playing it. It took 3 days of me hanging out on the TLOU servers and watching them all in the same group chats before I finally gave in. I lived in a tiny boring city so not only did Destiny became a place for me to hang out with online friends, it kinda became my life - I was gently teased by co-workers that anytime I took a few days off, it was likely going to be a Destiny drop. Surprising even myself - I got really good at the game, was one of the first Warlock sword users against Crota when the rule was Hunters only, became a raid sherpa, did trials, etc. It was such a wonderful experience because there were so many communities, people, groups and pages to meet. I was part of like 7 different destiny facebook pages altogether and being the sword-bearer for a few months made me super popular. I took some time off for the Division and then missed most of 2017 until Destiny 2. I played up through The Last Wish, never started the raid though, was still grinding and then life took over. Moved to a new city, started a new relationship, began travelling and it just sort of fell out. Interestingly enough I was still a part of several facebook chat fireteams and I'd read their updates and plans every few months. My closest friend and raid co-captain texted me a few months ago to say the end was coming - I always had in the back of my head to come back before, and couldn't believe - it's actually been 10 years. I've spent the last 2 weeks binging all the story and lore points since I can't even think about getting into this game now and it feels so bittersweet - what a fucking experience. Thank you so much for this video!

Leading into the Witch Queen launch I sent a friend of mine who doesnt play Destiny a Witch Queen trailer and we started talking. I explained to him how all I want is a campaign like The Taken King. The whole introduction sets the stage amazingly. We had heard stories of and killed the son of Oryx. We knew how powerful Mara Sov was. We saw the panic and last ditch attempt to stop the oncoming wrath of Oryx in our system where Mara Sov sacrificed herself to just stop the ship. We then are being told about distress calls going out on Mars from the Cabal, a faction who has no word for retreat and here they are terrified. We land, we start walking, we crest a hill and a dying Cabal pops out (I am sure others like me shot at it assuming it was an encounter). We hear and see the outcome of a losing battle as we enter into the base and the comic horror starts kicking in with the taken void zones and I think we see a cabal being sucked into one. All the while Eris is breaking through and the whole "fingertips on my mind" and her panic instruction for us to run as the shade of Oryx spawns. I really like the Witch Queen, but man The Taken King really did it for me. Oh god the whole final mission fighting Oryx too, that reveal where you walk into a room bathed in darkness and all of a sudden that starts receding and is turns out it was just projections of his wings. So good.

I'm late to the party but this video was awesome. So nostalgic! I did want to point out that you didn't mention that when you decoded engrams, to get the highest light level, you had to go to your vault, get crap gear that you didn't like but it had a higher light before you went to decrypt - it was the only way to get the highest light level. Great vid, lots of great memories - I miss the odd, wonderful chaos of D1. Cheers!

One of my fondest memories was doing the kings fall raid for the first ever time with a group of randoms, never done a raid before and had not the best gear, but the patience and teamwork they had to teach us the raid I will never forget and the feeling of opening that chest was something else, from that moment I dedicated a lot of my life to playing destiny and helping others

Destiny genuinely changed my life. I have never connected with anything like I did with this game. For YEARS I played virtually every single day with my friends, and continued to do so until destiny 2 came out. This game, defined my childhood. Everything was about destiny for me. I remember the feeling of getting an exotic drop, how pvp was the best part of the game for me. Finally completing a raid and getting some of the best looking gear. The king’s fall weapons and armour were some of my favourite pieces. Man, thanks for flooding all the memories back! Wait for xur to come on fridays in hopes that he had an exotic you didn’t have and the rng god wouldn’t let you have. Completing the raid on 3 different characters to maximize your drops for exotics. D2ers just don’t get the grind. The vex mythoclast was probably top 5 most sought after gun and you literally couldn’t get it. The game was god tier and the grind made us all fall in love with it.

This was awesome! I was a Taken Kinderguardian. So many great memories in the crucible with my clan. Especially Iron Banner. I considered that my monthly Xmas. One of the best things D2 brought into the game was the clamber. Remember that mountain you could climb in Rise of Iron's social space? Jumping up that was one of the most frustrating things in that game. Kept bouncing off. Love me some clamber. Thanks for the trip down memory lane.

I want my crota and king's fall armor. Sickest armor ever. A big gameplay change I've been wanting since vanilla D2 is raid armor that has unique perks that are only from the raids and can be used outside of it unlike current armor. For example, there was the perk that gave you extra recovery on grenade kills (I believe) that was only available on raid chest armor.

Also if youre a crucible player you should check out 1v1s and 1v3s amd sweaty trials matches. They really encapsulate the energy d1 crucible had which was so different from d2. It felt so much more raw and had more energy, the weapon, map, and armor designs. The whole aesthetic in general was much more original and authentic and the color use and lighting was just in general much more well designed and implimented, even with the lower resolution and frame rate. I think those last two things actually added to the purely visual aesthetic, enhancing its innate lofi aesthetic from the more matte dark orange/green/blue color palette contrasted with bright, vibrant, colorful neon lighting in a really dramatic style that really made use of shadows much more effectively and dramatically. Theyd move away from that aesthetic in new content they added in rise of iron but a huge part of the game still had it in spades. I think comparing the classic shaders from d1 like glowhoo and stuff with the more clean, refined, meticulously painted shaders from d2 perfectly encapsulates the subtly dramatic shift in overall aesthetic, excuse the oxymoron. Like you barely notice it at first, but the more you think about it the more you realize it completely changes the atmosphere of the game and bleeds into how they changed subtle things about their entire approach to mechanic balancing and map/level design for a more streamlined, clean cut, carefully crafted and curated experience, with less of an emphasis on atmosphere and more of an emphasis on the more tangible content. Similar to how they ditched their more distinct lofi style with unique color use and dramatic lighting techniques in (my personal opinion) a misguided attempt to shift the focus entirely on the much more intricate, detailed, much higher resolution character models that they were capable of creating with the next gen modeling software they used to make d2 with. It seems like their new approach viewed their original heavily stylized lofi sci fi aesthetic as fat to trim to make the game more concise and less polarizing in all areas. Which i suppose i hear the pitch for, but i think they just cut way too much of the original personality destiny had away that they dont even come close to recapturing with the much more mechanically and sculpturally intricate achievements they were able to accomplish with more advanced software.

@@Alex-kc7tp dude what? Bro I get you like d1 but d2 is more fluid, more movment. D2 is cleaner and well more sweaty when it comes to PvP. More so w the fact the medals are also assist based as well. Destiny 1 crucible was just as bad as d2, nolstagia is one hell of a drug. Also what with the color saturation comment? Dark colors are depressing. And it’s used to hide details.

Destiny 1 was history in the making. I grew up leveling up my guns through the grind of xp and then they changed it, i remember like yesterday. I was so mad i grinded everything out of all the guns at the time. The way the supers and abilities were set up were kinda similar to now more than previous d2. I miss the memories made with my only friends. d1 was a different game. I remember grinding the husk and getting the crux of crota; winning trials with Invective while standing over the warlock ready for the self res; i miss going under the warsat in that one strike and entering the new area, i know you know what im talking about. I remember the 2 tap of the thorn and the only void handcannon i had was from the crota raid, how did i do it? how did i get good enough to use that crud gun and get the best in the game. I miss the challenge, not the bullet sponge but the real challenges. I miss getting a random exotic bounty knowing that whatever gun the mystery held was able to turn the tides of battle instead of tickling the balls with electricity called a Jolt. There were a lot good and a lot bad. Patience was needed beyond everything else. I fell off the ledges so the newer generation could mantle. Now i am a forgotten relic just as the black hammer or the strangers rifle.
