I've been in the avian field now for the better part of 30yrs. I've worked "hands on" with everything from Warblers to Birds of Prey and Budgies to Macaws. And i must say this footage is STELLAR photography and putting it all together and watching it was a sheer delight for me. Corvids happen to be my one of my favorite family of birds. They consist of; Ravens, crows, magpies, rooks, jackdaws, jays, and nutcrackers. And the Eurasian Jay or commonly referred to as just "a jay" is the originator of it's class. While Blue and Steller's jays are large and can be predatory. The Eurasian is bigger then both of them averaging around 13-15in so it's a no wonder why this little Accipiter was having difficulty taking down a bird this large. Much less feisty as Eurasians have quite an aggressive attitude and are FAR more predatory then there smaller cousins the Blue and Steller's. That's not to say the hawk couldn't kill one but it would have one helluva fight on it's hands in the process. And sometimes it's not worth the effort on there part realizing a well placed peck of the jay's strong beak could easily remove an eye...!!! However, EXCELLENT footage none the less that i thoroughly enjoyed watching. Keep up the GREAT work...!!! And happy birding everyone keep your eyes to the skies you just never know what your going to see...:)

Wonderful footage. In my Ghillie Suit I've often watched young Sparrowhawks sparring like this with up to 7 young Jays in my local wood. It's fantastic fun & so exciting to watch, it's as if they are all involved in a training exercise.

Beautiful work, thank you. On a technical point, what benefits accrue from upscaling to 4k from native resolution other than a much larger file size?
@seile806 жыл бұрын
Hi AntPDC, than you :-) As youtube downsamples to 16mb/s from HD original approx 80mb/s it will be better quality in 4k with downsample to 40mb/s. The video is also shot in 4k 50fps which have bitrate 150mb/s.

Wow, what a superbly edited video you have created there. You have obviously put a lot of groundwork and time into capturing so much superb footage. There are few videos that people tend to watch right through, if over a few minutes but this was one of them. I think the Jay might have battled too hard for the Sparrowhawk and it didn't seem all that bothered about it. And then of course it has a go at a Magpie! It was a really enjoyable watch and well done to you.
