What a great and comprehensive video. Thanks for putting it together, and also for being so impartial. These hammocks all have their pros and their cons, which are in most cases subjective to the individual user. I personally love Dream Hammock and Chameleon, although I also own the original WBBB. The Zing It ridgeline and the hooks and rings all around the perimeter of the Chameleon are precisely one of the reasons I love it. I find those rings so useful and well positioned. The extra few grams that they add to the weight are at least partially off-set by the ultralight ridgeline, which as long as it can hold the tension it's good enough for me. But of course I have my pet peeves about these hammocks just like any dedicated user. Thanks again for the vid!

Rick Morales 100% agree. All of these things are very subjective. Regardless of my personal opinion, all three of these hammocks are amazing! And even my pet peeves are me nitpicking! I’m glad you found a use for all those rings!! Lol. I’m holding firm on wishing it had an Amsteel ridgeline though... or at least the option to have it made with one! 😂 Thanks for the comment and sharing your perspective! 👍

First off, good information. Not many people own hammocks from three great companies. On my Cameleon, I love the outside hooks for my under quilt suspension. It helps to keep it tight against the hammock. I use my side pullout to make my hammock more roomy. I also have the peak shelf, and ridgeline organizer. Great for my jacket/raincoat. The fabric is indeed soft. I just purchased a Warbonnet Eldorado. Haven’t spent the night in it yet. But from just hanging in my yard, it’s sweet. And yeah, Dream Hammock is amazing with customization. Maybe a Raven is my future. Whooo Buddddy!

@TripleNickelOutdoors4 жыл бұрын
I didn’t know either but on the Dream Hammock website they stated that most of their hammocks are right lay (head left and feet right). I found this position comfortable and I noticed that my dominant arm (my right arm) has more room to move around the hammock to make adjustments and things like that. That might not dictate which direction may be more comfortable to you but it’s something I’ve noticed. Also, I’ve tried to lay in the other direction and it feels completely unnatural. @@TripleNickelOutdoors Hi Nick, I'm still researching, and in that quest, I've found that a 1.6Hyper DXL sparrow with bug net weighs 44.3 oz. The Chameleon with bug net in Hexon 1.6 W weighs 20.4 oz. Is the extra weight worth it?

Over time, I discovered that 90% of the time I didn't need a bugnet or top cover. Now I just soak my hammocks in permethrin a couple of times a season and I'm good. Mosquitos and noseeums don't tend to be that active after dark. I generally get to camp near dark. By the time I've pitched my tarp and hammock and had dinner, it's dark. Remove the bugnet/top cover from the equation, and you don't have to worry about switching from left to right. Just buy a gathered end hammock wide enough to taste at about a third of the price with less weight. I own about 20 hammocks with and without bugnets as well as hammock socks. 90 percent of the time, I grab a basic no net gathered end hammock. I use a double layer (reduces bites through fabric) with net in the Everglades. I use a sock when it's going to be well below 20 F. The rest of the time, I just climb in a hammock without fiddling with zippers.

@@TripleNickelOutdoors I always sleep head left/feet right. I only flip-flopped the first couple night I ever slept in a hammock. Darren MC very subjective but here’s my perspective. There’s around a 4 oz. difference between my Chameleon (58”) and my Sparrow (67”). So a slight weight penalty the wider you go. At 6’4” the 62” width of the XLC was a nice balance between weight and comfort. @TripleNickelOutdoors6 жыл бұрын
Bob Preis the flapping is caused by the width of the material. Had the XLC had tie outs at the footbox area you could stake it out and it would help eliminate that. That’s why there’s a tie out at the head end so that the netting is pulled away from your face.

Two points: 1) you mention that you like the wider hammock because you're large. What is "large"? Seriously, that's important info in this context. 2) When choosing between them, I would send a noobie to the Chamelon over the XLC. Why? Because the noobie doesn't KNOW what side he (or she) is going to lay. The Chamelon supports figuring that out. Excellent job, my two minor points aside. Watching/reading comparisons of top products in any market is always a great way of getting a sense of what matters and WHY. Full disclosure: I have a older XLC, as well as a Therm-a-Rest something or other (GREAT fabric) and a Draumur XL which I haven't set up yet. I don't really sleep that comfortably in the XLC, so I'm looking at trying a Chamelon.

It's hard to speak for the masses because everyone's comfort levels differ. I just found that for my needs, a slightly wider than normal hammock body gave my a better lay. Other people of similar stature may find they can get away with the standard width. It's very subjective. I think I would send a noobie to those specifics brands because a lot of the guesswork has been done for you. As you start to get familiar with the different components and what works, and doesn't, you can better "fine tune" your set up. Thanks for the comment! Nick

@@TripleNickelOutdoors thank you! I own a Hammock Gear 20 degree Incubator. Do you know if this UQ or other standard sized UQs would fit well on a wide (XL width) Sparrow? Looking around to see if UQ hooks on the Sparrow would be necessary for a wider hammock body.

You know the zing it has a higher weight rating this amsteel....
@TripleNickelOutdoors4 жыл бұрын
Amsteel has a much higher breaking strength than zing it. 7/64” Amsteel is around 1600 lbs. vs. 1.75mm Zing it which is around 500 lbs. Here’s a quick reference if you’re interested. www.hammockforums.net/forum/showthread.php/113244-Difference-between-Amsteel-and-Zing-it
