It would probably be just as effective as modern AP rounds. You really just have to put a piece of hardened steel or tungsten in a projectile and you're good to go. Drill a hole in a 10 gauge slug, epoxy a piece of a drill shaft into it and you got yourself a very potent AP round.

Marines use the 37 mm round during the battle of guadalcanal " But a Japanese counterattack was already in the making. Shortly after midnight on Aug. 19, 917 soldiers of Col. Kiyonao Ichiki’s 28th Infantry Regiment landed 22 miles east of Henderson Field and began the westward trek toward the mouth of the Lunga. Tipped-off that a Japanese force was approaching, the Marines were ready behind defensive positions just west of Henderson Field near the mouth of the Ilu River, which they nicknamed Alligator Creek. Two battalions of the 1st Marine Regiment were waiting when Col. Ichiki’s detachment reached their positions shortly after midnight on Aug. 21. The Japanese walked into a wall of fire at the sandbar near the mouth of the river, and that fire was produced by a pair of 37 mm anti-tank guns firing canister rounds."

The big difference is that modern artillery use HE rounds. You REALLY don't want to get hit with a 37mm high explosive fragmentation round (though would certainly not be around to contest the issue). Eeh thats a tough one, as during that era, you'd have had both bronze and iron in decent supply. +PureCountryof91 even if he shoots the engine block?
@PureCountryof918 жыл бұрын
+Jalend Venn iron or aluminum? across the block? through the cylinders? the crank? oil pan? yes hiding behind the engine usually saves you. but an iron block cracks with enough force and speed .50 bmg obliterates almost everything.. 12k fpe, 2800fps.. yeah worry then, but rifle rated armor is heavy and most places on a patrol car get shredded by .308 and even some 5.56..

I think this is one of the finest channel regarding this type of confrontation. For instructional purposes it would be good to see how a soft armor would do against a strictly flint rifle/pirate guns. we know AR500/spartan would stop anything because of velocity issues but still trying aramid against a full read round ball shot from a flint rifle would be TRULY interesting.

It's amazing how many people have commented the same thing. Like don't people glance the comments before making one?? Every other comment is about how they thought he was gonna shoot actual ancient armor which btw makes no sense. Awesome video though love me some old guns nothing like the smell of good ole black powder.

I was impressed that the spartan armor stranded up to everything multiple times, usually armor goes to shit after being hit once.

your probably better off not wearing the armor if they bring a cannon,it would be easier for your family to clean up
@SonsOfLorgar6 жыл бұрын
Proud American yup, and you can move faster, so there is actually a chance to hit the deck in time if you see the crew moving away from the piece before they pull the lanyard or put a match to the touch hole.

I’d love to see a 20mm Anti-aircraft round against the plate
@VoidHxnter5 жыл бұрын
Zyzor it would probably just go straight through, leaving a hole the width of the bullet, since it’s meant to penetrate very, very thick metal. The body armor is just maybe 5-10 mm thick.

I imagine the lead splattering around the plate would hurt the target arms pretty bad. Could You put some ballistic blocks to the sides to see how bad the spatter is?
@martingarricks62098 жыл бұрын
No
@joni7fi8 жыл бұрын
Thats why there is the spalling, thats the black rubber coating on top of the steel plate, it catches all the shrapnel! :)

@joni7fi8 жыл бұрын
Yeah well not in this case x) too much lead, as you probably know that these armors are made for modern bullets which make so much less shrapnel than these huge lead blobs :D

he just didn't wear eat protection bc I've fired black powder and this things are loud, but tbh you should really wear hearing protection when useing any firearm, even a 22
@oscarfloyd26788 жыл бұрын
Some of the lower grain 22 is pretty quite. Even though wearing hearing protection is best, sometimes I have to not wear it just to make sure the round actually fired. I mean, the hammer is the only thing I sometimes hear while wearing protection
