I was in a group class learning the Sun style Tai Chi form in the early 1980s. The teacher was a new immigrant to the USA from the mainland and he knew I had been training a long time. He could not understand why some of the students had on what we call “tai chi slippers” and Jing-Mo uniforms. He asked “:why do they dress like that? “ I just wear this ( he had on a adidas style track suit ) “just toss it in the washing machine , no ironing. “. I said I think it’s because its what you wear to be authentic He just shook his head. Even the traditional schools in San Francisco in the 60s were just wearing T shirts and black baggy elastic pants.

Hey Coach...they just put the Conor/Khabib fight back online and something that had kind of been bugging me about MMA rules jumped out at me. I get that there are good reasons not to allow striking at the spine...but why is it legal for fighters to take advantage of that rule and give their opponent their brainstem and effectively use it as a shield? It was kind of obvious during that first takedown...an elbow to the back of the neck or head would have definitely stopped that grapple attempt, but McGregor was forced to do these awkward strikes around the head. It seems like we're not talking just exposing yourself by accident but instead exploiting a rule in bad faith
@k2m5245 жыл бұрын
Fighters expose themselves in positions where it is hard to not hit an illegal blow. For example Dustin vs Conor, Dustin was blocking Conor's straights very well so Conor begin to throw left hooks, Dustin got clipped a few times and when he decided to duck he got hit and dropped, it was not an illegal blow but when he went down and Conor went to finish him he tried to roll some of it and got hit at least once to the back of the head. Some high kicks hit the back of the head.
@ThatFreeWilliam5 жыл бұрын
Those I get and understand. It's when it's slow and deliberate, such as in the initial grapple where Khabib had the back of his neck exposed to McGregor at chest level and instead of being expected to protect himself and get his neck out of there he was able to continue the grapple and it was treated like a 'success'
@roichir76995 жыл бұрын
I did not watch the fight nor have I a good enough knowledge of the ruleset. But from my experience as a fighter in different rulesets, there is a immanent tension between getting close to real fighting in da streetz where there are no rules and a ruleset you need for any sports event to prevent injury, making fights fair and/or provide some other sort of additional meaning to the sport. And these rules can always be exploited and lead to behaviour which is dangerous in a no rule environment. Usually the fighters are aware of this which does not stop them from using the rules to get an advantage. Which in itself is some part of fighting. Get all the advantages possible and use them.
@ThatFreeWilliam5 жыл бұрын
Oh, I wasn't thinking 'Da Streetz', just that I feel like I was looking at a situation that shouldn't be encouraged or rewarded. I'd rather the ref broke those up and grapplers didn't get to grapple with magic shields.

I have several rash guard type shirts. A few under armour, some Adidas, and a lulu lemon yoga top that was a gift. The lulu is the best one and no doubt expensive. Its thick and durable, but most important it wicks away moisture. Some of the guys I roll with sweat like they literally just stepped out of a swimming pool. The under armour shirts don't wick at all. They just hold all that sweat right against your skin. Its like wearing a wet suit, but nasty. Ill gladly spend good money to avoid that.

Hey Ramsey! I was wondering if you could share your thoughts on transferring pure boxing to use in an MMA fight. I have been training boxing for almost a year now, and I have been invited to my university's MMA society as my friend is running it this year. Would love to know your thoughts on how I should modify my boxing? I don't really want to go to ground, I love sticking the jab out, landing a flurry of shots whilst changing the direction of attack then double jabbing back out of the pocket at an angle; most of my combos are build around that. Would love to hear your thoughts as I think you have a great depth of knowledge of martial arts and MMA, or if anyone watching this video could share some wisdom I would be grateful! thanks in advance
@roichir76995 жыл бұрын
From my experience in a different kind of martial arts it is useful to learn at least some basic skills at the ground to get yourself out and back to your favourite position. You never know who you will meet in the ring and it will not help you to throw punches when the other guy just slides in and goes to grappling your legs. And you will learn some interesting skills too, that may help you with boxing as well. So give it a try. I need to do more in this direction but have not enough time to.
@JohnnyBengels5 жыл бұрын
You can learn so much by training other disciplines like wresting, bjj or muay thai. MMA is a combination of all those and even more. This is what makes mma so interesting to watch, to learn and to practice. Give it a try and you will open up a world of fun for yourself. My experience is that the guys who stick to one discipline end up disapointed while praticing mma, because the training partners who know more about everything else have a huge advantage. Beeing dominated by a good wrestler is no fun. Just take a look on the worlds best fighters, many of them have a wrestling background because they have a different understanding of the forces in a fight. The first time a wrestler took me to the ground and dominated me for 5 minutes was an eyeopener for me. Put yourself in those situations so you can feel it. Then you will know why it is nessessary to practice everything. Start with bjj, so much fun and totally worth it. Greetings from germany!

I love rashguards but when i go to mma class and get into a clintch/ on the ground, my partners gloves(velcro) reaps the fibres and it starts looking used :( what can i do?
@RamseyDewey5 жыл бұрын
Tape up the Velcro on the gloves before you spar. I always do that at my gym, not just to preserver Rashguards, but to stop the gloves from scratching up people and spreading infections. Always carry a roll of sports tape in your gym bag for this reason.

@@RamseyDewey ohh smart idea but i would feel weird taping my partners gloves. Especially since i never saw anyone else doing it at the gym. Also, i saw that people wear a normal t-shirt and under it a rashguard. Is it to prevent the velcro pulling the fibres?

Why have you not been on JRE podcast

Because in spite of Joe knocking on my door at all hours of the day and night begging me to do his podcast, I just keep turning him down, that’s why.

Those spandex pants look great on you sir. I wonder why some men are ashamed of their biology and wear a pair of shorts over them. It's stupid. The shorts could slip off.

Problem with clearance stuff in my experience is stuff only gets added to it when they low in stock and the only thing that's available are extremely fatty sizes or super tall ppl sizes same thing happens with gi's you will see "omgs that style is on clearance sweet deal oh fuck they only have A5 A6 and XXL XXXL damn lol" good luck finding anything in a avg size lol

I have a question to all MMA fans including Mr Dewey, and it goes like this, if UFC was going to allow men to fight women, what weight gap, would make it, what you would consider to be a "fair fight"? For example Dominick Cruz at 130 fights Cyborg at 185, would you consider that to be a fair fight? Or is your position that it can never be fair?
@nativepredator88035 жыл бұрын
No. They should never fight. Men fight men, women fight women. Period.

Men should never fight Women....'Adam was created from the rib of man...Not from his head to be above him ,,,not from his feet to be walked upon,,,but from his side as equal.....& near his arms to be protected...& close to his heart to be loved'..

Rash guards and spats, I like Elite. They're about $20 each, and pretty great. Good quality for the price.

"Spats and rashguards" is a title just begging to get your channel demonetized. I might not know what sex is (see below), but I'm 90% sure it's pretty close to those words.
