I'm in the process of building out an HTPC setup at home in my room. I just want something I can kick back and relax in front of when home. I've been an OTR trucker the last 10 years, living in the cab of a truck on the road 95% of the year.. I've finally gotten fed up with the lifestyle and been apply for local jobs like garbage truck or towing. Something where I'll be home everyday and have regular weekends off. For the last 6+ years I've been specialized in hauling glass on flatbed and double drop trailers. Which has taken a toll on my back and joints. I remembered the good ole days when I was younger, gaming on the couch with my buddies. That kinda inspired my idea for my new setup, just replaceing the couch with a bed, and the console with a PC. I've got most all my furniture setup, or ordered. All I'm waiting on now is Intel 15th Gen to launch, and that RTX 5090. As for the TV I'll probably be going with the 85" Sony Bravia 9 Mini LED. I've considered OLED, but I'm certainly concerned with the possibility of burn in, especially on an HDR TV, and being hooked up to a PC. I've seen the Bravia 9 in person next to OLEDs and it's still quite impressive. It doesn't quite have the inky blacks, but it definitely get's bright with HDR content. It certainly blows other LCD screens of the past outta the water. I figure by the time I'm ready for an upgrade perhaps Micro LED will be available and somewhat affordable. Or maybe OLED will have some new breakthroughs that eliminate or nullify the risk of burn in.

Currently deciding between the two, which is why I watched. You addressed a lot of what I was thinking about. Playing on a monitor is awesome for focus and immersion, especially with headphones. Yet it doesn't hold a candle to the comfort of kicking back on the couch. Since I like to research strategies and walkthroughs, I like having a laptop or second screen nearby to do research (tablets can also work if there isn't much typing involved). That means, only casual games or games that don't require a lot of thought are the ones that are restricted to the couch. Problem there is if I have both types of games on the same console. I could just get two consoles, but I'm trying to be more minimalist, so buying two of the same console isn't desirable either (even if it's probably unavoidable for what I want) I think what I'm learning here is there will be compromises no matter what I do. EDIT: I forgot to ask - do you have a dedicated office for work stuff, or do you do something else with your laptop? Where does it live when you're not using it?

I like both a TV and monitor for different reasons, as you point out. But for the living room where I am using the space for movies, shows, and gaming, I think I would like to get an OLED display when the time comes to replace my LED TV. But in the spare room where I am usually more gaming-focused, I think I would rather stick with my VA LED display where static images are usually on the same part of the screen for extended periods of time. Especially on PC.

I did a thing to my 32GS95UE ... Bought an Apple TV 4K for that monitor withalong 2 Homepods. Far better experience what i thought first time. So basically 90% of the time it works like a TV with a remote controller + OLED + HDR + 4K UHD. Its a quite 9/10 movie experience imo. Just not as big as needs to bee. :D

Monitor is my choice. High refresh rate, custom pc, keyboard and mouse are goats of gaming, even in offline games (I prefer playing hard difficulty, so I like to be involved and reactive). When I tried to play on TV I always have this feeling that I want to sit closer and to be involved, so I usually sit anyway, so no laying down.

I play PC, got rid of my desk and put in a big tv and a couch, been playing PC games with an Xbox controller and really enjoy it. Only problem is controllers are pretty non-competitive on PC, as most players are using the far superior mouse and keyboard; at least as far as FPS games are concerned.

I tried playing Valorant on the TV, and it was incredibly relaxing for a competitive game. The combination of the comfortable couch and the large TV screen created a completely different vibe from Valorant, which is more intense and strategy-focused. I understand that, for competitive games, the best experience is often on a monitor and PC, where precision and quick response are essential. However, when it comes to fully enjoying games like Gran Turismo 7 or Spider-Man, nothing beats the immersion provided by a cozy TV and sofa,

I would love to have a setup like your living room for gaming, though I'll probably have to settle for a soundbar due to the lack of space. I'm currently using my PC monitor for my Playstation 5 gaming, as I can't afford a good TV yet. If I had a good TV, II would definitely love to game on the couch as I already spend all day sitting on a PC chair for work.

Using 165hz 1440p 27" monitor for competitive and for everything else 4k hdr 60hz 55" tv .I play competitive on pc and chill games on pc or ps5 depending on the game.Probably the best combo

3:04 wdym? I just got a 240hz 32 inch 4k qd oled for 900 bucks, and before that I was rocking a 4k 144hz 28 inch Samsung G70A I picked up for 600 in 2022, they exist and they're arguably priced well when you look at TV prices for that kind of refresh rate and resolution combo.
