The number (300, 350) etc in Mercedes EQ models has nothing to do with range - it's to do with model/trim numbers. If Arun had done his homework he'd have seen the claimed ranges were nowhere near 300, still less 350 miles. And the assertions about charging station availability are odd. I don't know where Arun is driving, but I regularly do the London to Glasgow drive and there are huge numbers of charging stations along that route. Similarly there are large numbers on the way to Bristol. The UK currently has almost 65,000 public charging points (not enough, I agree), but that number is growing exponentially and is expected to hit 600,000 within the next six years. Full disclosure: I drive an EQB and it's fantastic. The performance massively outclasses my previous car and any ICE vehicle I have ever driven (and I once, briefly, drove a Lotus Elise!) and it's so much more comfortable and quiet, and much less noisome (no petrol/diesel smells; my children's car sickness has largely vanished). EVs are still developing and are not for everyone, and there is still plenty to criticise in how the UK market supports them. But let's do it on the basis of properly-informed facts.

Okay, I like Arun, his mostly right about a lot of tech, but his experience with his EV does not match the majority of EV users in the UK. I've been driving EV for 4 years now and I've had 0 issues, I've never had to wait 3 hours for a charge, EVER. The issue he made here is the EQS is just not a good car, sure it says Mercedes on the front, but they're are reletively inexperienced making EVs. Tesla, Kia, Hyundi, BYD, MG, Fiat, Audi all make far better EVs and have significantly more experience at making them. Also there is significant misinformation in his 'opinion' on this. Traffic does not impact EV batteries. If the car isn't moving, its barely using energy. The heater will make a small impact but most EVs are now heat pump based and you'll be looking at losing 1-2% of battery per hour at the most. Range lies, well thats on Mercedes here. My Tesla Model 3 gets the range stated most of the time in Spring/Summer/Autumn, maybe 20% less in winter.

It's still awesome 90% of the time when driving close distance. It's well known if you want to drive distance Tesla is the only option. Good range and a charging network you can rely on. On the positive side the experience will only get better as more chargers open.
@Lord_Winchester Жыл бұрын
@@BenWeatherillBut do you regularly drive 300 Miles like he said he does? Sure, it's really bad marketing on Mercedes, but the problem persists. Finding a free charger, when you are in dire need of one is way more challenging than finding a free pump. And if a pump is occupied, it's available within the next 5 minutes. A charge-stop can set you back another 30 minutes to a couple of hours. Sure, you could just charge up for like 10 minutes, but then you are back at the same problem after 100 miles. Commuting with an EV makes sense, if you can recharge overnight. But for longer distances it's just painful.

I just wanna say, if you get a mechanical keyboard, a palm-rest is a must. You should get some silent red switches and lube them up to get a quiet and satisfying typing experience. His review was also extra wrong when the Corsair K95 Plat also comes with a wrist rest which has 2 sides and the holder is detachable. It's a 200€ after all. What baffled me the most is the excuse to have lost speed using the best switches to type ease and accuracy. Downsides on this KB are the detachable pins or the wrist rest are not particularly sturdy and the size of some keys are different that most brand so you need custom keys. But he reviews mechanical kb in a whole and what he's telling me is he didn't use it enough to get used to it as you have to, coming from all these membrane and chiclet ones...

I think the problem you encountered with mechanical keyboards was the fact that you went straight for a specifically gaming keyboard. The recent Blackwidow V4 75% is a really good example of a *good* gaming mechanical keyboard, and I think you should give it a try.

Mechanical keyboards are overrated IMO. They used to be very common back in the 80's and 90's but fell out of favor for membrane keyboards, who where softer and quieter. Try working in an office with 20 of those being used at the same time and you'll understand why... Main reason why they are making a comeback now it's due to the influencer hype and the fact they have become a sort of status symbol among gaming enthusiasts. If you've got a mechanical keyboard and it works for you then great, but the reality is most people don't need one. The best keyboard you can get is one you like and feel comfortable using. Membrane keyboards are cheaper, quieter and often times sleeker (which makes them more ergonomic without needing to buy extra accessories like wrist rests). And honestly, why spend 100-200$ when you can just go for a fully functional 20$ keyboard? I understand the alure of following the hype train and wanting to try things, but really, more important than what others say is what you think is best for you and your situation... Don't feel bad if your opinion doesn't align with current trends.
@Larathu Жыл бұрын
i think it's a use case issue, main reason for choosing mechanical keyboards is N-Key rollover (ability to hold down many keys at once and they all register), Membrane keyboards are usually 4-Key rollover up to 6-Key (4 key meaning you can hold down any 4 keys and they all register but 5th might cause the keyboard to report no key being pressed) depending on key position and some special keys (Shift-Alt-Ctrl) you can go over the listed value but its listed as the minimum you can be sure works. For writing where most multi key uses are Shift + Letter, Ctrl + S and Ctrl + P, Any membrane will do fine. For Gaming or certain IT tasks where you set up multi-key keyboard macros for some tasks you will want at least 6-key rollover or a mechanical keyboard.

What you're saying is next level, even with off-the-shelf keyboards you can get a satisfying experience. mrwhostheboss mentioned minuses that are very personal. Sound - many users don't care about the noise they make(plus there are so many types of switches with various levels of .. well everything). The wrist strain - easy to solve with a wrist rest. Bottoming out - again, different switches with different levels of everything. Sure, some people don't like mechanical switches, but if you really give it a proper go, there's no going back. That said, I would not reccomend anyone getting into it if they like their membrane switches, mechanical gets very expensive very quickly.

one solution for the mechanical keyboard is to get a gasket mounted keyboard, which is softer and bouncier to type on, and do make the keyboard quieter, consider adding some foam or other mods to make it quiter, or perhaps quieter switches, as i think the keyboard is hot-swappable. different keycap materials may help too

It's so sad you rarely see splitscreen in games anymore. I think the main reason for this is with the advancement in graphics and such, you have to spend more and more time into optimization for those graphics as well. And having a secon camera just means you have to render double the amount of graphics on screen. Meaning it's scrapped in most big budget games which sucks!

Mechanical keyboards do take some fiddling to get it all right, but that’s also part of the fun of it. Trying out new switches, keycaps, foam, etc. Still not for everybody, but I think it’s worth sticking with it and tweaking things to get it just right. Personally have a Keychron K7 with some Cherry reds, some extra foam, and Mode Design keys with a nice wrist rest. I wouldn’t call myself a keyboard fanatic, but I definitely value all the different approaches you can take.

Mac pro was obvious, especially after Apple Silicon. It's actually impressive how good the Apple Silicon chips are. The mechanical keyboard issue is something I always related to. I've always felt the same and I can type much faster on my laptop keyboard. The EQS and electric cars in general really do have an industry wide issue where they exaggerate range and charging speed. I love EVs but I cant recommend it to people when they overhype the specs like this. And lastly the PC handheld gaming. It is frankly overhyped and I am glad someone actually took the time to lay out the practicality of it,

I ended up with a Ducky, but swapped out the switches for Gaterons (though am wanting to try the Boba U4's...being in Oz limits my options somewhat as shipping here can be expensive and annoying). Lubed them up and it's a super smooth typing experience. Going for a gaming keyboard when you're using it for productivity isn't the best idea. Keychron make some great 'pre-builts' and their low profileis fantastic, same with Nuphy.
@cybershocked Жыл бұрын
Mechanical keyboards vary a lot, and I would say some of your issues there come not from it being mechanical, but characteristics of that one that simply do not suit you. There are low profile switch options with significantly less travel, and certain switches or o-rings to cushion the bottoming out, and with lower noise than clicky audible feedback ones. There are keyboard designs, and maybe even modifications to reduce the sound even more. But those still may not make it a good fit for you personally. If a membrane keyboard suits you well, there isn't a need to change. Mechanical keyboards vary such a huge amount, it would be ignorant of someone to declare a keyboard better for someone for reason of it being mechanical alone.

Early adoption of products comes with its elevated risks (as compared to products that have matured a bit when purchased) - especially true for tech based products since we have been led to believe that their "so-called" lifespans are so small (ever heard things like "3 years is an eternity when talking about tech products"). Anyways, hindsight is always 20/20 and I am glad you made this video - especially for the more expensive products. In some of the instances - e.g. the Apple desktop computer and later in this video and especially for the Benz - ideally it would be neat to update the original video with a clip inserted "Future Arun here to point out some of the things that didn't turn out as rosy for xxx products as when we initially published this video" - mainly because there will still be folks who might still purchase those products in the future after watching those original videos and might not get to watch this video till its too late. Granted that most of the items would have depreciated quite a bit (including the Apple Desktop) that folks wont pay anywhere close to what Arun paid originally. However, for things like the Benz and even the keyboard - Arun makes some valid points alluding to how "persistent hype" surrounding the product can make us make decisions against our own gut feelings at times.

Some thoughts / constructive criticism on lacking details: I wish you'd have specified what type of switches you got on your mechanical keyboard. They sound like silver switches, but it would have been nice to know. Also, you can get low profile switches and keyboards that are quiter, still have that tactile feeling, and less travel per key. The reason why mechanical is so loved is because of how many options and customizations there are. I think he gave up a little too quickly. The Steam Deck and ROG Ally, I mostly agree with, although I wish you had specified that the Steam Deck does not run Windows, but runs a compatibility layer called Proton to run the games on Steam OS (a fork of Arch Linux). Proton, for the tech that it is, is really really cool, but sadly, a good chunk of games require a bit of technical knowledge of Linux and tinkering to get them working. Wish some of this was mentioned as it glosses over important details in my opinion. I do agree about the MacOS part. I bought a really expensive Intel MacBook in 2019 and it ran great right up until M1 was announced. After that, my Mac got worse and worse and it felt like Apple neglected us Intel Mac users. I was ultimately forced to upgrade my Mac because it was causing too many issues for me at work. Really sad how Apple screwed us like that.
