As I only feel the need to use a Pro controller exclusively for CoD, and always use a regular DualSense for single player games - the SCUF gets my vote without a doubt. Those mouse click triggers are unmatched. Anyone who disagrees straight up hasn’t used them before. The amount of travel in the Edge’s triggers is a lot more than I was expecting, even on the lowest setting. The Edge isn’t bad by any means and has some awesome features, but the SCUF is the easy winner for CoD.

I have both. I do think the Edge is the better buy, even if it doesn’t currently work properly on PC. The Scuf just shoots up in price far too quickly. I also prefer Sony’s sticks to the Scuf’s, but that’s all personal preference. I think the Scuf has the far better face buttons but both skimped on the Dpad and could have done a truly separated pad. All in all the cost savings & warranty lean it heavily towards the Edge. Both are quality products. Edit: for anyone who sees this in future, my Scuf broke today. Main reason why scuf ps5 is more expensive is bc not much competition. I wouldn’t be surprised if they drop the ps5 scuf price due to the edge being in market now. I’ve had an elite Xbox controller for a long time. I actually have 3 of them. They are absolutely amazing. When playing shooters on PS5, it obviously wasn’t nearly as good as on my series X. I had a longer joystick on my right stick, shortened my triggers and obviously the paddles mad it an even bigger game changer with games like Apex Legends and Destiny 2. I was super close to buying a scuf for my ps5 when I realized they were coming out with the Edge. I knew the scuf wouldn’t be nearly as good. Once I saw you had to pick one style trigger with the scuf, it was a big no for me. I’m perfectly fine with only 2 paddles because I only use 2 paddles on my Xbox elite. Both the Elite and the Edge have almost identical customization. One thing you forgot to mention about the Edge is how it has the piece that clips around your usb so if you are playing with it plugged in, your metal charge port with never get weak. The piece clips around the usb and then clips into the controller making it super sturdy. My biggest complaint about the Edge is the awful battery life. You don’t get 8 hours out of it. It’s closer to 6 hours of constant gaming. My Elite Xbox controller gets like 40 hours on one charge. I don’t know why Sony can never get that part right. Xbox is way better when it comes to charge life and then options on the regular controllers. If you play Xbox or PS and don’t have an Elite or Edge, you definitely need one!! The SCUF controllers are just modded DualSense controllers. Rip one open and there will be a Sony PCB inside. IMO you should either go with the DualSense Edge which is designed from the ground up to be a Pro controller (and lets you easily replace the quickest wear parts on the controller, the stick caps and the stick modules themselves) or DIY one yourself with parts for brands like ExtremeRate. It works out cheaper and you can fix stuff like the instant triggers yourself when they break. Hex Gaming's controllers use Extremerate parts. I'm also heavily against giving SCUF and Corsair (who owns SCUF) any money since the whole reason rear paddles on controllers aren't standard is because they managed to get a patent on buttons on the back of a controller and charge companies to add them. Despite the fact that prior art exists (and Valve proved this in court).

It's awfully convenient that the ps5 controller has a common enough case of drifting and they just decided to launch a controller that costs twice as much to address that. As someone who has never been hype over the elite controller concept. Because it's not usually worth the money for extra buttons. Personally the Dual Sense Edge is a great choice as long as you don't mind charging the controller every 4 hours to take a break. The vibration feels better, the controller is slightly larger so it feels better for shooting games. Being able to map the additional buttons is something I didnt know I needed. A game like Battlefield, Call of Duty and Horizon Forbidden West can really utilize this game. Quicker access to certain mechanics is great. I also feel that any time my controller dies and I return to the base Dual Shock it feels so much cheaper and the adaptive triggers and haptic feedback doesn't feel as good, but that could just be a placebo affect. If you are tired of replacing your PS5 controller every 6 months cause of drift, I say buy it.

Finally a video that helped me decide. On every scuf review, the stick drift is mentioned more or less but it always is, and people complain that scuf customer service sucks and repairs take months. Since I almost only play FPS games and I am not a pro player, I just want to place the slide and jump button on the back buttons so I probably dont need more than 2 buttons for COD anyway. Also the fact that on Edge you can replace whole stick modules solves future stick drift issues if they occur.

Considering how on the edge triggers you can literally set it to have almost no dead zone at all, The scuff instant triggers don’t make much of a difference if at all in my experience. I know I’m late but very nice review.
@TheFlyingHeifer Жыл бұрын
I think the clear option is the edge. Even just for let alone the price. like the scuff starts at the price of the edge, and that's literally without any of those customization features you mentioned. The edge also just has way more profile customization. The case and controller quality itself are just day and night better than the scuf. Even if you are using it for first person shooters I don't think that instant trigger makes up for everything else. Also, a huge note is instead of using the physical slider for the trigger on the edge controller just use the dead zone profile option like put zero as the start and the lowest option you can go as the end and will act the same way as the scuff or close.
@robinwells5343 Жыл бұрын
Having used both I will say this is a spot on review. Worth also saying that scuf as a company is terrible and sony are much more likely to replace a defective product. If you buy a scuf at £200 it isn't really anything more than a controller with paddles. Saying they are the same price is defo not accurate. It would have been nice for you to compare prices of one as closely matched to the edge as possible. In that case sony wins hands down (by around £100)

(sticks last about 7-8 months before they get moved over to the other side; the rotation keeps the # of sticks bought down LOL) I will be interested in the magnetic module that is coming out from an after-market maker, that made some for the Switch. I think it'll be more than $20; but if it means 1 time purchase, or lasts well over a year w/o issue - it'll be worth it.

The controller's buttons will stop working randomly, my back left paddle seized to work entirely, and its battery life is much less than the Dualsense Edge's is, as I almost always play with it plugged in. For the $260 price tag, I expected much more in a product from Scuf.
