Nintendo isn’t stupid, they know they can’t stop random twitter users from pirating their games but they can try and stop the emulators at the source, which is what they’ve done.

It's important to remember that Ryujinx didn't use games before release to make optimization, the emulator was just so good that it could already run those games. Yuzu specifically did put out patches to Tears of the Kingdom before release, but Ryujinx waited for release before making any optimizations for that game. Same story with Echoes of Wisdom, except no more Yuzu. Again, Ryujinx played it fine with no updates during that time that Echoes of Wisdom was leaked.

I am convinced now that Switch 2 will be backwards compatible and similar to Switch 1 and so Nintendo wants to remove the biggest hurdle out of their way because they fear that these emulators could one day open a path for easy jailbreak of the Switch 2 and once it is jailbroken opened up, emulators are not out of the water.

I think it is very sad for future preservation that these emulators were taken down, on the other hand I kinda understand it, because the Switch is still a current gen system. I think they should have started the Switch emulation development after the announcement of Switch 2. Just my opinion, when it comes to emulation there is no right or wrong opinion, is pretty much a gray area but I think it is very important for preservation.

Halo's downturn started as soon as it left Bungie's hands. Same thing happened to Gears of War once Epic was no longer in the driving seat. The same thing could happen to Evil Within if Microsoft ever hand the keys off to another developer. I think what Krafton needs to do is get Tango Gameworks' purchase completed, wait a year or two to get Hi-fi Rush 2 released, and then look at purchasing the Evil Within IP from Microsoft if they haven't decided to anything with the IP. And then we may see Evil Within 3.

Experience with Dolphin and CEMU tells me that they should just wait a few years before doing anything Switch Emulation related and they'll be fine. People love to mention how Dolphin coexisted with GC, but don't mention in what state it was compared to Switch emulation.

Something like Xbox One is actually the easiest modern console to emulate, but we're only now getting any progress with it, because no one cared to do it. We're getting to the point where probably only Nintendo consoles will have emulators because Sony and Microsoft port everything on PC anyway.

I don't think the agreement was Nintendo threatening legal action. Because the person who created the emulator was in Brazil and because of the laws there Nintendo couldn't go after them like Yuzu. I'm think more like an offer was made possibly for the creator of Ryujinx to give Nintendo everything for X amount of money and when you look at a emulator your not making money on vs just accepting an agreement to sell it to Nintendo so they own it like Yuzu. Either that or Nintendo sent real Ninjas to Brazil to serve that cease and Desist.

That's the same way I saw it. Nintendo doesn't give early advance notice of lawsuits. They just sue you. Yuzu didn't even know the full scope of the suit until AFTER we all found out they were being sued. This just reads as a payout to me.

The thing that almost nobody is pointing out is that this basically confirms the theory that the next console will have backwards compatibility with the Switch. I would theorize that they're trying to protect that aspect, especially this close to a new console on the horizon. The first Switch has a Tegra X1 which is Maxwell but the new Switch will use the Tegra T239 which has Ampere, both are very well documented so getting a OG Switch emulator to work with Switch 2 games might be way easier than having to develop a new emulator from the ground up.

Usually after couple of years they don't care to extend the license and we don't have physical media any longer, Hi Fi even on Xbox was digital only, so yeah. If you bought it digital before the music license went out, you should still be able to have all the original music but if you bought it years later you will sadly have a inferior second version of the game, same happened to similar games, that's why I recommend people to buy it now, if they are interested in Hi Fi Rush.

Meaning the 343 that made Halo 4 is not the same as the ones who made Halo 5 or Infinite. It's just been a cycle of new devs coming in to take over the ones who contracts went up meaning the studio is consistently starting from scratch without any devs who worked on previous entries being their to guide them.

Ryujinx never ever once used prereleased games to update their emulator, Yuzu did. Its also not ryujinx's fault that it can play Nintendos new games day one due to the vast majority of Switch first party games using the same art styles, codebase, and overall design. Nintendo had a legit legal case against Yuzu, but not Ryujinx, which is why the dev of Ryu has taken the deal with Nintendo weather that contains a pay off, or a job it self (which is what I would do) no one knows.

Microsoft and 343 have run the Halo franchise into the ground. Don't forget, when 343 was formed they deliberately hired people who hated aspects of Halo. The franchise is _never_ going to recover, it's dead. We need to accept that and move on.

The fall from grace that Halo has seen under 343 has been so unbelievably sad. Right up through Halo Reach, every shooter that came out was aiming to be the "Halo Killer." Halo was the gold standard that all other shooters were measured against and now, as Jon said, it's basically an afterthought.

Ryujinx was MIT license, so anybody can fork it and pick up development. I'm sure the "agreement" ensures its primary dev (gdkchan) is not allowed to participate, but it doesn't stop the project from continuing under a different name by different devs. Unlike yuzu, which had contaminated code and so any offshoots are forbidden fruit, Ryujinx by all accounts did not.

I have a sneaking suspicion that the Switch 2 has similar protections to the original Switch (along with the HW vulnerabilities), and that’s why Nintendo is going after all of these emulators. I actually think their biggest target is to stop the game leaks. It might be that developers will have to commit their code in countries where Japanese/U.S. laws cannot be enforced and on personal repositories like GitLab or Gitea. It’s really unfortunate that the majority of folks creating or using emulators or sharing content are by far some of Nintendo’s biggest fans.

It is more of a press/market thing. Nintendo does not want emulators that can run their first party games better than their current hardware. They take them down, casual gamers never hear of them, people keep buying hardware to play whatever game they liked until next hardware comes, never knowing the game runs better on that PC they just bought for college or Minecraft or whatever.

The problem is that people are trying to emulate a console that's still being manufactured and sold first-party. Notice how Nintendo isn't going after Cemu (Wii U) or Dolphin (GCN & Wii) nearly as ruthlessly? Because those consoles are retired. The sun has set on them. The Switch is still alive and kicking, until the Switch 2. Once we're a year or two into the Switch 2's life cycle, I'm sure Nintendo will ease up on the hunt for Switch emulators. Now, if Switch 2 emulators start popping up, then the hunt begins anew. If shadPS4 or XWine1 came out during the height of the PS4 and Xbox One, I'm sure Sony and Microsoft wouldn't have taken kindly to that.

I really don't think nintendo got away with that agreement easily. there had to be compensation to stop this development. nintendo never had a case in Brazil to sue these people hence why it was this good and took this long to bring down. it's also likely that the architecture/coding for the Switch could be similar to the Switch 2 so they decided to throw a bone at the developers to stop them before they got a hand on any switch 2 related topic.

I massively dislike BR games and find they're massive presence to be frustrating at best....but a halo version seemed like the only one that would be amazingly fun...and of course it's the one to get cancelled instead of many MANY other more deserving games.

It's about preservation that's why I can't buy games from the most physical friendly company. I have to have a emulator for their current gen console and download the games for free a week before launch when it leaks to make sure it's preserved I also need to upload spoilers for every game on KZbin and Twitter

Must be to prevent piracy since sitch 1 games work with switch 2. So they can just duplicate sw2 it and make it run on the emulator since the switch 1 is compatible.

They really should not make emulators for the current Consoles as it would get the attention of the big companies. They should just wait until the next system comes out and then maybe start working on it. You know those emulators are gonna hurt sales of those games and that gives fuel for those companies which might actually push further from current emulators because they know thry would actually win on those

The big rumor is now Nintendo is against emulation thnks to the rise of handheld PCs like Steam Deck, capable to emulate Switch without to much problem, even surpase real hardware, then explain why strike a emulator now that lived over 5 years? Switch 2 backwards compatibility? Hard cope.

I'm so done with Nintendo Emulation people. First, it's "it's for preservation", then it's "it's because they're not in the market anymore", and now what's the excuse? Hell, they complain if they shut down people making money off of the damn thing.

I can't speak for other people, but I have three main reasons: Graphical enhancements like better resolutions and framerates. The convenience of being able to play so many games all at the same place, like my PC or my SteamDeck. Rom hacks. There are so many rom hacks that i can't even list them all. They give tons of new ways to play old games.

So if the Switch 2 is backward compatible with 1 does that basically mean its a beefed up Switch 1? If that's the case does that mean a good emulator of Switch 1 with a beefed up kick ass PC that can upscale etc is going to be where a Switch 2 is, regarding performance, upon release? Possibly another of many reasons Nintendo doesn't want any emulators.

When the ps6 comes out, at that point it will practically be a pc and the cost comaprisons will become extremely relevant. That might be the point where Sony is forced to open an online storefront that is mixed pc/console. In other words, you could play a game on either one or both. Plus if a new handheld has ps4 capability... could be a new dynasty for sony if thyey can manage to get their IPs near their former glory. Then their handheld could compete directly with switch 2... I see an interesting future ahead.
