The issue with alcohol and the switch is that the OLED models have a slight "soft-touch" texture to them and that part is more fragile than the actual plastic underneath.

Yeap my fingers usually are enough to damage the surface of the plastic and leave marks on the console. Everything portable Nintendo made from sp onward has marks from my fingers. I miss the old plastic from the Gameboy era.

Why on earth would you use 90% rubbing alcohol? You gotta use a much more mild cleaning solution. That fact Nintendo recommends 70% just shows this is people not knowing what they’re doing. Running alcohol is very aggressive solution, and is completely unnecessary for plastics and consoles. Simple water and a pea size drop of dish soap is more than sufficient.

Isopropyl alcohol thats 90% and above is excellent for cleaning... board level components. As it has a high alcohol content and little water it will evaporate rapidly, and not leave mineral residue making it very useful for cleaning sensitive components. Very little warm water and a tiny anount of dishsoap on a microfiber cloth will take care of oils/dirt for the case. Screen w/o a protector id would only use a little distilled water on a microfiber to then wipe, or some lcd wipes. Personally I do use special edition consoles / accessories. My daily driver for xbox is the halo infinite series x, and controller. Yeah it depreciates, but im pretty sure I'll be able to sell it for at least what i paid for and thats good enough for me.

Microsoft is getting way too complex with the cloud and subscription stuff. Options are good, but consumers aren't good with complexity. Microsoft needs to make things as simple and easy-to-understand as possible. Otherwise, while the sales person is trying to explain all the cloud subscription options, the consumer will just look at the PS6 and say, "I know how that works. I'll just buy one of those."
@Mister_Phafanapolis
@Mister_Phafanapolis Ай бұрын
Due to subscription fatigue, I think many consumers will trade complexity of a subscription service for the complexity of running a PC and call it a life. You know what you’re paying for with a computer. I have no interest in paying a monthly fee to use a console and given the state of the gayming market, I think I’m far from alone.

They can't do that cause the company doesn't know which direction it wants to turn. Like buying an xbox is good but buying gamepass for xbox punishes you still. They can't even make it easy for their own audience yet alone expand. All in all gamepass will be rebranded again soon for the 3rd-5th time in a year or two with some bs tacked into it. The whole goal is trick people into not unsubscribing and change rules as they go.

Multiversus was supposed to be just a small side project that blew up while it was still in beta. The game just didn't have the infostructure to support the amount of people trying to play it so they had to revamp everything, or it would just become unplayable over time. The decision probably stifled the games initial momentum, but at least it not just another dead live service game. Being a Free-to-Play games means it's got a good chance to recover and thrive.

@G360LIVE
@G360LIVE Ай бұрын
I've heard that Microsoft wants to make a cloud tier that doesn't include Game Pass but simply makes every game you own accessible from the cloud. I hope they don't do that as a subscription because that should be an included feature when you buy a game. You know, you buy a game and you get it on Xbox, PC, and cloud. That makes sense if Microsoft still wants to push their "play anywhere" idea.

Any % IPA should NEVER be used on plastics with painted designs. Never. I learned this lesson back in 1985, when cleaning some CDs. It totally erased the design on a Def Leopard disc on contact. Oh, and never use them on those old Coleco Table Top arcade game screens. It melts the artwork off of those on contact as well! I stick to soft soap & water. With most game related consoles, portables, accessories, I will remove the shells and clean them under the faucet (w/light soap & water). With extreme cases I'll put them on the top rack dishwasher. It does wonders. Clean at your own risk though.

And now we can begin to undestand why the big three stopped going to E3 and those kind of shows. They weren't saving just a couple of bucks, they were spending (or wasting) tons of money in advertising their games, products and services in ways they probably didn't have much control of. Meanwhile, having their own dedicated showcase any time they want grants them the way they want to convey what they're working on and the best way to capitalize on it.

It’s not just alcohol, sweaty hands can do that as well to your oled Switch, which is disappointing. You can see how much Nintendo cares about their products and designs.

How are people still not cognizant of rubbing alcohol being bad for coated/finished plastics? It's not good for unfinished plastics either, but it's not as bad. If you need to clean plastics, you use clean, room-temp water (maybe warm if there is stubborn debris) and either a toothbrush or a microfiber, depending on what you are cleaning. Ideally with electronics, you will disco the battery and tap the power switch to dump caps, but still.

Wonder if Nintendo charge for being in Nintendo direct or not, the smart move is to not charge then they can have very strict control on what show up and when, allowing them to focus on higher quality games and make sure its a wider selection, boosting game and consoles sales, which will help both sides

@joegardner851 Ай бұрын
I wouldn’t be surprised if they did. It cost time and resources to put on a direct. However I think it is much cheaper than these events.

When it comes to cleaning plastics (console and controller shells, game cases, cartridges, etc) I personally like to use Windex. Strong enough to get through grime, but gentle enough to not damage anything and evaporates quickly. Can't confirm how it effects those Switch decals, though, as I've never cleaned those before.

Nintendies are shocked that alcohol melts that exact material. Maybe they'll find out that salt can dissolve in water next.

That’s so lame! Nintendo needs to make higher quality materials! And I don’t want to talk about the quality of joycons and pro controllers which all started drifting short after purchase, which is inexcusable!

I maintain these console manufacturers are making a mistake not making handheld systems. A PlayStation Portable 3 and 4 that use the PS3 and PS4 architecture and specs respectively but are handhelds would definitely sell to some audiences.

Any surface with details printed on is an instant do at your own risk. You are trying to remove additions from the surface like dirt and grime so don't be surprised when everything printed on the surface comes off too. This is also one of the reasons why cleaning products ask you to test it on a small area first.

People, NEVER use cleaning products on plastics. You never know the exact type of plastic that’s been used. Seriously, all you need to clean plastic surfaces is soap diluted in warm water, a toothbrush and a soft microfiber cloth that you just dip in the soaped water, squeeze most of the water out of it and scrub the surface you want to clean with it.
