I was working at a videogame store during the 360/PS3/Wii generation and one day a mother came into the store looking for a guitar for her son. Her son got Lego Rock Band for the Wii at a GameStop but they neglected to tell them that they needed at least one of the instruments to get past the main menu. We were no longer stocking the instruments and seeing this mother's face of defeat, I told her that I personally have a spare Rock Band for Wii guitar that I'm no longer using. I told her which days I was working and that I'll bring it with me to work to give it to her at no charge. She came back 2 days later and I'm assuming later on that day her son was able to play his Wii copy of Lego Rock Band. It was the best feeling in the world knowing that they were both happier after that day.

It's rather unfortunate that quite a few games require accessories just to get past the menu. I think one of the worst examples is the menus in Sonic Free Riders. The game clearly could've worked without the kinect, but even then, scrolling through the menus is a pain because of how unreliable and / or unresponsive the kinect can be.

I work in a nursing home. We still have and use Wii. It’s interactive for groups and so simple for older residents to use. The Wii remote with sensor bar is one of the most versatile controls ever developed. Wish they could make it happen again. The joy con just misses that mark.

Measured by the 28pin GL852 USB-2 Controller which is 5mm x 5mm in size: The SNW8VF chip on those leaked Switch 2 images is about 12,5mm x 16mm in size. That's 200 square mm. Using a 5nm process, Samsung can fit 126.5 Million Transistors per square mm. That's 25,3 Billion Transistors for the SNW8VF. Using a 8nm process, Samsung can fit 45 Million Transistors per square mm. That's 9 Billion Transistors for the SNW8VF. Given that the original T239 has 15 Billion Transistors... a 5nm process would be needed to fit it on the SNW8VF footprint... or the customized Nintendo version of the T239 has less than 9 Billion Transistors, then a 8 nm process would be perfectly fine.

The Switch 2's new loading speeds are going to blow people away. OMG! If the Switch 2's new MicroSD (Express) expansion slot is true, it would mean the new Switch 2 game cartridges would also HAVE to match that. MicroSD Express is 1969 Write and 950 Read speeds. The current MicroSD, Nintendo branded MicroSD's cards, only run at 100 Write and 90 Read. The current Nintendo cartridges alone can only read at 60 to 95 R/W speeds. This jump in speed is going to be insane! Also, with a new internal M.2 SSD drive, with what I'm assuming will use typical M.2 5000 to 7000mbps transfer speed technologies could mean we see instant loading times. I think when Nintendo finally reveals the new Switch 2, the highlight of the show is going to be the Switch 2's new loading times. Load times are going to be instant. Especially for backwards compatible titles. Fast traveling in Zelda BOTW or ToTK would not have a loading screens. Imagine that? OMG, I'm so excited!

Could the second USB-C port mean that they don't need to sell the dock in the main SKU, to bring down costs. In terms of the chip on the Switch 2: people thinking it was going to be super updated during the speculation period before release was exactly what happened with Switch 1. Then when found out what it was, the tech geeks bitched the system would be junk. 14:41 The minimum clock the GPU can have on 8nm is 470Mhz anyways, or 1.444TFLOPs. Basically this thing will handle Xbox Series S ports easily with graphics that are superior to PS4 in handheld on an 8inch screen regardless of the node, and should be able to down port from PS5 without too much trouble as well, given that it has 11GB of RAM for games vs PS5's 12.5GB for games.

As student in IC design, I'm gonna say that the design of the SoC itself matters more than the process node being used. The node does help with increased logic density, but it doesn't automatically mean that it is going to perform better. You can have really great designs on slightly older nodes that perform really well!

The Tegra X1 in the original Switch was 20nm. It received a V2 revision in 2019 to 16nm with the release of the Switch Lite (also with better battery life).

Switch 2 with 12gbs of ram make me think this is gonna be a Rog ally extreme situation where people are gonna mod the hell out of the internals just to keep temps low for the dock to overclock higher for game to not be locked at 30 to 45 fps along with a very short period before it’s jail broken seeing the over all board layout seems the same so far with just higher ram count and speed.

So quick one, why does everyone discount or forego the inclusion of DLSS software in the Nvidia/Nintendo magic soup? That alone outclasses everything every handheld has currently using AMD or Intel upscaling techniques.

Because AI upscaling is not great (imo). Everything regarding AI in videogames so far have been pretty bad. The new pssr has been bad, where they removed updates that added pssr because it looked worse etc. Frame generation sucks. AI upscaling sucks. Id rather just have 30 fps than 60 fps with generated frames.

The Switch 2 is looking as I expected. Nintendo wants to be price competitive so they won’t have cutting edge chipsets but they will boost things like the ram to gain performance. I know I want the next Switch I’m most excited for the launch game announcements.

as I have said for 9 months now, it wont be until march. late February at the earliest. remember people just got a new switch for Christmas. they are going to give people time to ....start Nintendo accounts, buy things with gift cards, play the new games they got etc. then they can announce the new system. remember as well that the new system isn't going to be released for some time after they announce it. probably wont come out till late summer or fall.

The top port makes sense for portable play WHILE being plugged, having it on the bottom was shit for stands and if you wanted to play laying in bed the port would get crooked out of shape.

Man it would be cool if the upscaling tech was in the dock. I don't think the dock should improve graphics or anything but if they could offload something like upscaling to the dock i think thst would be cool.

I didn't mind 8nm or 5nm or Samsung or TSCM or 4TFLOPS or 3TFLOPS. I just want all Switch 2 games running at locked (if can) 60fps 1080p handheld & 60fps 2K/4K TV with respectable graphics & battery life (handheld). I'm believed in secret sauce that Nintendo & Nvidia put in this Switch 2

Nintendo gonna probably update the chipset to at least be more efficient during a revision like the red box versions of the original. Even if it's not upgrading anything, the fact that they could probably get better battery life will probably be at least a selling point when they do.

being that the switch 2 has a Samsung chip makes me feel like the rumored Samsung handheld is real and more games will be playable directly from a phone like iPhone does now
