The "holding the Switch 2 by one joycon and the rest of the system comes crashing to the floor" art reminds me of the "holding the Switch by both joycons and the system slides out from between them, creating to the floor" art from before the Switch came out, and hopefully will be just as much of a non-concern on the real thing

You have to put the controller in from the bottom first, where it slots into a cut-out. Then you push in like scissor blades and it locks in at top. it's the scissor action that may stress the connector strips.

Something that wasn’t mentioned here is the notch on the bottom of the joycons on the colored area. They always show the joycons entering the Switch at angle, bottom first. It is likely that there is a nub or hook that grabs that notch, which also helps hold the joycons in place.

If you're walking around holding your several hundred dollar console by one of its detachable grips, you deserve what happens if it falls lmao. The Joycon pin connector looks to be slightly offset, away from the Nintendo logo. This would ensure a poka-yoke ("mistake proof") style of connection, making it impossible to insert incorrectly. Additionally, if I were personally engineering these things to be magnetically coupled, I would orient the magnetic poles to align only when the controllers are the right way round. Pure speculation but I would not be surprised if Nintendo have thought of this too.

Things I’d love to see Nintendo incorporate is a much better community aspect. Being able to send message to your friends. Being able to send friend requests/messages to player recently played with (parental restrictions here obviously) Being able to customize the main hub. Have an achievement system. Staying in the Nintendo style maybe Stickers? Then having a sticker album that you can customize. Other players can browse these and see your in game achievements.

What's worrying me is that leaks are suggesting that ONLY NSO subscribers can use that - even just to share videos and use it like a social media thing, which would be awful. It's bad enough that every tiny part of everything is being monetised but when you buy an entire system, where that functionality is part of the price... Being made to pay more, to access most things on a console, is treating consumers like shit.

IMO the fact that the joy-con strap is hollow is the biggest indicator that the joy-cons have the rumored mouse functionality. There wouldn’t be a reason to make it hollow unless you were trying to design it so that the strap doesn’t block any sensors on the controller when in use.

Nothing is a "rumor" in regards with the Swich 2 lol, cause everything that was leaked in the last 2 years has been spot on. We know literally everything: The specs, the clock speeds, the launch titles, the mouse function, the purpose of the C-button etc... And Nintendo is kinda right with being this secretive, cause its kinda boring knowing everything this far in advance. The only thing we haven't seen yet is the OS.

It would make sense for Nintendo to double down on the IR cameras. A lot of games that could've made good use of it (like Mario Party) likely didn't because only half of all joycon have an IR sensor. It could also come into play in a successor to Ring Fit. That game's titular ring relied on the IR sensor to not only register your heartbeat but also register compression on the ring. The ring itself is a piece of plastic. Adding another IR camera to the leg-strap could greatly enhance its sensitivity and open up the possibility for more types of exercise.

8:20 I wonder why they didn't use Pogo pins. Tablets use them for accessories connections like keyboards on the iPad and they're both fairly shallow/flush and durable. I also don't think most people's concerns are with duty cycle wear and tear, Nintendo probably took that into considering when designing the Joycon attachment mechanism and materials they picked for that connection pin. Damage will probably come from accidents, and curious little fingers. Both issues the Pogo pins excel at mitigating.

I have zero worries about the toughness of a nintendo product. They clearly have made the needed design changes . Even the Switch Oled was evidence of that already. No more wobbly joycons that wear out from sliding on and off. No more stick drift, it has Hall Effect analog sticks which was also leaked. The kickstand is even better than the Oleds ,much easier to open and gives it a fresh clean look. The powder coat paint matte finish is excellent, they did that with the DS lite and it felt amazing. I do not like flat joycons that's my only negative. Thumb cramping horrible shape ,ugh . I will have to get a satisfy grip . Also since it has hall effect sticks, it should be the only upgrade .

I wonder if the coloured interior is going to be a plate of some sort you can swap put to match the joycon seeing as in the leaked picture it was plain black ? I guess if the magnets were strong enough it could be a thin metal plat that sticks on, would be a nightmare getting it off again though.

for the different joy cons, you could have the oppsit magnet poles on each one so you cant put them in the wrong way...

Regarding the Joy-cons 12:00 when you look on the switch 2 website and look at the entire system as it rotates, it's clear that it's just the shaping of the mold. There is no IR sensor it seems.

It looks expensive and sweet. It now looks like those $700 window portable handheld and less toy like the switch 1. Can’t wait to get it. 😅😂

I think the whole thing with the joycons connecting to the unit is that those people complaining about it will prolly be the first to test it's durability and break it purposely so they can complain that it's flawed

Im mostly interested to see how the joysticks feel..current ones have too small a radius to be accurate for a lot of games.

I dont think the Joycon connection is going to be an issue at all. its like USB-C connections with that thing sticking out, that shit doesnt break because the way the connection slides in doesnt allow for bending. and if it breaks then its most likely because you did something very wrong or gave it to a 3 year old, at which point you should expect things to break.

It's true and there can be friction at the center connection. I can hold up my large phone by thy usb cable connected to it. That's how strong the connection is. And Nintendo has 2 magnets added to it. I don't see an issue

That thing will not break you can’t move the controller while it’s inside of there

The only way I see it breaking is if someone took a screwdriver and stick it into the Switch 2 sideways while the joycons are not attached.

You can't move the controller while its in there. But you could have one of the controller's edges press the edge of the connector. With 89 degrees being the obvious extreme. Looks like the connector has some amount of gap around it between the plastic. So it'l move a little before snapping.

The fact that Nintendo has sold us NES, SNES, N64, and Genesis controllers for NSO leads me to believe that Switch 1 joycons and accessories will be compatible with Switch 2. And if that's true hopefully that's true for things like 8BitDo's Arcade Stick and controllers for Switch as well.

I think the c button will be pressed to use the switch screen as an added map or inventory when in dock mode. I think that’s also why the device can bend so further back.

It's possible that they decided that both Joy-Con should be able to do everything the other one can do. People have long complained that they're paying the same amount for either Joy-Con when the one on the right is more feature-rich.

I'm about to blow your mind. What if they DID implement the scroll wheel shoulder buttons, not a physical wheel but instead the shoulder buttons are touch sensitive and you can run your finger along them to scroll. Them being longer/around the whole corner of the joycon would also facilitate this functionality AND it would mean that the joycon in mouse mode would have a scroll wheel of sorts just like a computer mouse, this means that the scroll wheel controls in games on pc can carry over one to one. Also this functionality would obviously be available when the joycon are not in mouse mode as well for use in games in general i.e. menu navigation etc.

BTW you can calculate magnetic strength vs weight, so they can very easily work out a magnetic system what won't accidentally fall off.

Dual mouse gaming reminds me of the Commodore Amiga which supported multiplayer mouse gaming. Rampart and The Settlers could be played in splitscreen with both players having mouse control.
