I think it is just more simple to use the controller normally... Stardew Valley is really good playable with gamepad. Using joy cons as mouse in that game would feel like a gimmick, but not like an improvement. Sitting in the couch is more comfortable.

The attachments are probably not specifically needed for mouse and you can most likely use it without it as the joycon themselves have the reduced friction feet of a regular mouse at the top and bottom of the joycon. It would just be easier and give a more stability when using it.

I think the button on top of the strap module is a physical lock system so the Joycon doesn't come out flying when using it. You can see that the Joycon has a hole or indent on that top side, probably on the bottom, too.

Design wise I don't think much had to change, however when it comes to the hardware itself the only thing im concerned about is the 12GB of ram, feel they should've went 16GB minimum to match the steam deck at the very least.

steam deck has much more overhead between the compatibility layer and the actual PC OS... switch games will be running on a much more barebones system specifically only designed for playing games so its likely it will be about the same amount of free ram, depending on how they set everything up

Pc's have a lot more overhead than game systems. Steamdecks unified ram not only has to cover as vram (gddr on board a gpu), but also main system ram, what would be the ddr Irrc the most it can allocate towards games is 8GB. Steam is is also a much heavier os than horizon, and games need to be run through compatability layers as well. Switch 2 gets to use a lot more ram for games than the deck.

There's another video highlighting the release mechanism: the third triggers are releases and the "button" on the edge of the rail which looks like a circle is a plunger. The trigger disengages whatever the latch mechanism is and also actuates the plunger. The plunger, presumably, levers the joycon to break the initial hold of the magnets they're using. There's a notch at the bottom of the rail, so that's static and the joycons sort of escape by hinging outward, like in the promo shots.

Ps4 pro can't get anywhere near its peak theoretical compared to modern arches like rdna and ampere. It would be more productive to ask for more rops or registers in comparison to ps4 pro, than higher clocks for an arch never designed to clock high. If you like pretty numbers though switch 2 gets 24.7 tflops out of its tensor cores for powering things like dlss.

the idea of the controllers being not just magnetic, could also have a bit have suction type too keeps bugging my mind. cuz it looks like those part around the console's side looked kinda "rubbery" and a bit curved inside? making suctions quite effective? also around the top and the bottom part around the side of the joycons seemed to have 2 circular parts. one bigger and the other one smaller that's inside the bigger circle. like something might protrude when you press the button at the back for it to detach the joycons from the console.

Breath of the Wild, Tears of the Kingdom, and Link’s Awakening remake are all three great Zelda games. Super Mario Odyssey should be essential for every Switch owner. I’d also recommend Super Mario 3D World if you have someone to play with. Super Mario Wonder is also the newest 2D title if you prefer that style. Mario Kart 8 Deluxe + expansion pass has an insane amount of content now if you like Mario Kart. Super Smash Bros Ultimate + DLC has an insane amount of content also if you like Smash Bros. Metroid Dread & Metroid Prime Remastered are both solid exploration-action games with a slight hint of horror. Some “less popular” good games I’d recommend would be Paper Mario TTYD, Pikmin 3 Deluxe or Pikmin 4, Donkey Kong Country Tropical Freeze & Returns HD, Xenoblade Chronicles, and Kirby and the Forgotten Land. Since Nintendo isn't focusing hard on selling the concept this go around, what they really should be doing is trying to win back a lot of the third party support they lost during the last 3 generations. One of the most common complaints I hear from my friends is that the switch has no NHL, or NFL games, and can't run competitive shooters. Nintendo should be busting their asses trying get the developers on board and developing for the switch 2. Those kinds of games, on a portable console is a huge selling point for a large number of players that don't want to play Mario or Zelda.

About the Joycon functioning as a mouse. Remember that this is NOT the first time Nintendo has gone in this direction. Both the SNES and the N64DD had a mouse, that only supported a handful of games. I'm almost 100% certain that Nintendo is planning on reviving Mario Paint, either as a standalone game or as a feature in Mario Maker 3, and there are tons of other possibilities as well, for Nintendo and 3rd party developers.

IMO, the WiiU name being the cause of its problems is overblown. The Xbox's naming scheme (One, One S, One X, Series S/X) is way more confusing and damaging to their brand than the WiiU

I worked at Best Buy when the WiiU launched. Even my coworkers thought the WiiU was an accessory to the Wii until it finally hit the shelves. And I can't count how many parents asked me what the WiiU was and were stunned that it was a new console and not just a screen accessory. It was a huge problem. (I agree that Xbox's naming scheme is even worse though lol)

It wasn't just the name, it's that all the marketing focused on the gamepad and not the actual console itself. That combined with the horrible name was a great way to kill your new system before it even had a chance. I knew people that thought the switch was the follow up to the Wii cuz they thought the Wii U was just the gamepad and an add on for the Wii.

They're definitely mice. If you're able to pause it exactly at 9:41, you can see the optical sensor on the blue Joy-Con 2. My guess is that it attaches to something else which they did not show, so that that sensor isn't so exposed and any sort of mouse playing might be more comfortable.

I just want to know how plausible 1440p at 30fps is on this thing when it's docked. Or is it just going to upscale 1080p to 4k somehow? I'd really prefer dynamic 1440p medium at 30fps for 3rd party titles. I feel like handheld mode is going to push 1080p medium at 60fps. My curiosity is getting the better of me. Every time Nintendo fanboys bashed the size of Steamdeck (though it was just tad wider in favor of better controls and ergonomicks wich Switch lacks). They bashed the weight but I strongly believe that Switch 2 will be as heavy as Steamdeck. They bashed the cost of Steamdeck and now I think Switch 2 will cost the same or even more. Before that they bashed the size of Vita compared to 3DS. And now it turned it's fine when Nintendo does it. Steamdeck bigger, heavier, slightly more experience than Switch - is bad. They made a Switch Lite for people who don't want to use the console docked. At 54, my eyes just are not good enough for those small screens anymore. Can we have a "Switch Cube" - a version of the console that ONLY works with an external controller and a connected TV/display/monitor? I would definitely buy that one, I never use the Switch in mobile mode.

At this point in my life, I need to be convinced heavily to part with $400 on a gaming machine, and if the Switch 2 isn't anything too different than the Switch 1, then I don't know if that's enough. I don't think Mario Kart 9 would be enough.

At the time the Wii and 3DS came out, I probably could not have imagined those consoles beforehand. S2 will be number one selling and rated counsel once we find that AAA GAMES will be running on the device. They bring over COD, GTA, SKATE.. that is really what people want along with Nintendo classics, new games, and sequels. Nintendo has a huge advantage maybe not in power compared to ps5 but dropping Mario kart9 which we know already and to have possibility of Mario odyssey 2 along with the open world community online they tested had super huge potential! We can clearly see the same button on both joy cons and since the left joy con on the switch 1 already had a similar button now this could be a way of giving the same function for both joy cons on the switch 2 for both players being able to capture pictures while playing on 2 players mode removing that exclusive function for the players who used the left joy con. On the switch 1 that button was called the Capture button, so the new so called C button could be only that another capture button and adding it for both joycons would be a normal thing to do. But that doesnt erase the possibility of having more functions beside capturing video and photos to that button but lets wait and see if am that wrong as you are pointing out. By the way what do you think that button is?

Think of the games that ran beautifully on the last gen consoles locked at 30fps and those consoles did not support any form of super sampling. So if the switch has raw rasterization of those previous consoles but has tensor cores as well to deal with AI DLSS, I truly think the console will play the best games phenomenally on the go at a very good price point as well as maintaining battery life.

I’m wondering if families (as most others handheld gamers have probably moved on to the Steam Deck) will really upgrade to this, when it’s mainly a specs upgrade with upgraded joy-cons. It’s not enough of a paradigm shift like it was from Wii to Switch, but it’s more like it was from Wii to Wii U with slight improvements, but generally the same idea. So only the ‘hardcore’ Nintendo fans will most likely get this, same issue as the PS5 Pro.

Or maybe something like "Smart Delivery" on the Xbox, so the same game cartridge will run with higher settings on the Switch 2 or download higher quality assets.

No there doesn't need to be a "proper generational shift" every previous generation shift in gaming were the result of leaps in technology. Going from 8bit to 16bit to 3d once we reached 3d the shift occured due to increase in processing power which allowed for things like oblivion NPC schedules. But each time a generational shift the difference between the current gen and the last Gen got smaller. The PS4 and Xbox one were the last true "generation shift" and even that barely counts. We are at the point where the only thing a new console change is the amount of ram and the power of the graphics card, and companies have decided to use those improvements as a bandaid fix for poor optimization. We don't need a generation shift we need developers who will actually use the technology for something other than photo realistic graphics.

@ While I agree with the need to properly optimize games, my point is that in catering to older hardware, we are holding games back from achieving all that they can on new hardware. And we're distracting devs from pursuing greater heights. Believe me, I am just as sick of this graphical realism schtick as many others are. I'd much rather see resources spent on things like physics and improved NPC AI/interactions. Things that can't be achieved on older CPUs and the like. (TotK was an anomaly, I know.)
