This video couldn't have popped up at a more perfect time. First time designing and tuning a board with 915MHz chip antenna. Your video walkthrough and examples are great. Thank you for sharing.

very nice design.. The CC1101 and other TIs in that family are awesome little RF ICs, quite the spectrum analyzer you have.

I like the way you access the board using a modified SMA connector. Thanks for sharing.

Really nice video, thank you very much. Can you explain how to calculate the monopole trace antenna you do ?
@GMartinezBaixauli Жыл бұрын
Great explanation! I guess you just trusted that the output impedance of the filter of CC1101 recommended by the manufacturer is matched to 50ohm, right? Could you confirm with VNA that output impedance?
@saturnpcbdesign Жыл бұрын
I have tested the output impedance and it's off a bit, but that's a different video :)

Excellent. I noticed there seemed to be antenna trace on both sides ? Why ?

Maybe to increase the power and range of antenna to cover more and longer distances

Thank you this was highly informative. I have a question how do you determine the shape of pcb antenna? Is there any standard guide on how to get a certain shape and why?
@saturnpcbdesign Жыл бұрын
A standard practice is to make the length equal to ¼ λ, but for this antenna I just filled up the space as much as I could. In theory anything can be matched to 50R, it’s just math but in reality you want to at least try for a ¼ λ electrical length.

Smiths charts are quite easy to use to perform the matching, the hardest part is knowing the starting point without a VNA. You could also try a printed circuit stub to do the matching, that could be interesting experiment.

Great theoretical overview and examples for implementing antennas in a design; thanks for sharing. How would one go about testing the RF balun/filter section between RF_P/RF_N and your matching section Z1/Z2/Z3 with a 2 port analyzer? Would you terminate from L1-pad1 and test the balun with similar deadbugged SMA ports (or perhaps a UFL with bus wire?), and so on down the line to test each section and combine the results? Any practical advice on how to set up these sorts of in-place measurements would be very helpful.

If you only want to test the filter from L1 to Z1, then you are correct. Use a 2-port setup and measure. You can use wires or solder SMAs to the traces if you have room. I’ve done this many times by cutting off some of the legs of the SMAs to fit better. Make sure to calibrate out the port extensions though. You could use a 1-port method and ground one end for S11 only measurements. If you’re trying to determine output impedance from the CC1101 to Z1, then it get a bit trickier. The output impedance will change greatly when the chip is turned on. Obviously because the output is in a high-z state when off. So you either have to test with power on or remove the CC1101 and measure that way just as you did the L1-Z1 filter section. This however would require you to know the output impedance, in complex numbers, of the CC1101 (which I do believe is stated somewhere)

Hi.for a project i had to control st with remot control so I bought a Chinese remote control 433MHz 4 Chanel with Ev1527 IC and i desoldered all the component then i design a pcb exactly like chinese pcb and soldered all the component on my pcb but it didn't work.i have a good signal from the out put pin of the EV1527 on osiloclscop but it doesn't worked on antenna so I couldn't set it on any receiver how i can solve this problem.i know antenna has problem The thickness of the antenna of my circuit is the same as the Chinese circuit, but the length of my antenna is a little longer How i can solve the problem how calculate z1 z2 z3

Fantastic video, Just what I needed. Thank you very much!! I'm new to RF and was wondering what is Z3 for on your board? Now I understand Z1 and Z2 thank you, but what is Z3 for? Bestest regards Daniel

No real reason, I was just testing out different patterns. I was surprised that this one worked better than others so I kept it.

In Chinese pcb usually used antenna trace on both side to increase the power of antenna and cover the longer distancee
