The fabric recaros look better and would feel better overall cause it doesn't attract heat as fast as leather does

The fabric would feel better but the leather would look much better. It would tie together the steering wheel and the shift boot.

@@ButtKickersReviews just my opinion though. Never really liked leather seats cause we experience heat a lot from where we are and I feel more comfortable seating in a fabric than a leather seat

Appreciate how "honest" your videos are. They're relatable in that you show the struggle and don't skip over the process. I'm also in the process of restoring my rhd Supra so I'm excited to see what you do with the rear seats. Also gotta figure out how to do your BTI gauge hack!

I have a welding tip for my SA brothers... When welding things with odd shapes that are hard to get a ground on, use 10 gauge copper stereo wire with the insulation cut off. wrap that around your part, then clamp the ground to the wire. I would have used the TIG tho. i would hated myself if welding splatter would have hurt my interior. I like the steering wheel, good job. For the plastic panels that need refurbish, i like to use hydro-dipping, but I'm surprised at how good plasti-dip worked💪

Definitely liking the OEM+ look with the gauge and steering wheel upgrade. IMO would go with the leather recaros to keep the theme going with the leather shift knob and keep the factory sport touring street+ clean look. If this was going to be a more of a track duty car then I would recommend the fabric recaro seats.

for people that wanna do the gauge like pete did but dont have the rubber ring, electrical tape does the same job. for my gauges in my 240 i drilled a 52mm (2in) hole in a piece of aluminum and after deburring it was closer to 53mm. so a couple wraps of electrical tape to mount it with friction, and as an added benefit it protects the gauges from getting scratched. and i just put the aluminum plate with the gauges under my radio for a temporary solution. also for the window switch panel i think sem trim black might look a bit better and be significantly more durable than plastidip
@speedacademy3 жыл бұрын
I forgot to suggest a rubber band or two would also accomplish the job
@thecrads1023 жыл бұрын
rubber bands likely will crumble with enough time, not a permanent solution

+1 on SEM trim black! It's basically pure magic how it can look exactly as OEM on different manufacturers trim pieces can spray smooth or get an eggshell texture with experimenting, it also holds up well to outside trim! Plasti-dip in a high contact/touch point area is just going to end up bad... especially with only one coat laid down and on a smooth unprepped surface like the trim piece in the video, at least 3 or 4 coats and 4 days to fully cure. At least when it ends up with a tear you can peel it off in a sheet.
@LowAss7203 жыл бұрын
You can also get a rubber tape from an electrical supply store. And it doesnt get all gummy over time like electrical tape.

There is actual vinyl and trim paint as well as cloth and vinyl paint. Duplicolour is the brand that I have tried and it works exceedingly well on plastic trim for colour changes or just to refresh the finish. I have refreshed those panels by cleaning the gunk off them and recoating them with the vinyl paint . If you warm the plastic with hot water uniformly the paint will become part of the plastic just about so it is very durable.

i dont know if the supra is the same as my celica but the cusion base unbolts from the frame. maybe something to keep in mind for another car. this was similar to the time the wiring burnt out in my dads 7 series bmw and the seat was stuck and i had to rewire the whole thing after removal. then all the motors were going backwards. i think the pattern on the leather recarro seat is much cleaner. if the fabric one was the same it would be super tough.

Cloth seats are the way to go here. They look closer to OEM, and will have a better feel, especially on those hot days at the track. The leather looks more like cheap vinyl, it's just too shiny. I'm still not getting used to the wheel color. They just don't work on a red car. You'd be much better off with gray/black wheels in the same style.
