My understanding has been that Swift Springs alloy allow smaller diameter coils for the same spring rate, meaning that for an equivalent length spring at the same spring rate they have more travel due to the fact they can compress the area that would otherwise be taken up by larger coils.

Awesome! I just installed fortune auto 500 as well with swift springs, but i went with 12k front and 10k rear. I wanted the rear rates to be closer to front so the car would rotate more, but i wish i went a tad higher up front because it still does have some unwanted body roll, even with the sway bars Car rides better than before, and handling is impressive. I have yet to take it back on track but am extremely curious because i also have a "before" baseline lap time Would definitely be interested on seeing more on this car

@aaguirre1239 жыл бұрын
+David Pratte same idea but yours will be more objective rather than subjective because there's an actual time published on KZbin . With Matt it's very subjective because all you hear is his feelings when he drives the car on a canyon road. By the way how fast are you growing in terms of views and subscription? I thing you'll be over a million in subscription at some point in the near future. Keep up the good work.
@speedacademydave9 жыл бұрын
+aaguirre123 that's a great point, having a lap time is more objective and as we build a database of lap times people will be able to see where different cars slot in on that list. Our channel is growing steadily at about 1k subs a week, so we're getting there! A million subs is a long way off, but we certainly appreciate the encouraging words and will keep on doing what we do in the hopes that people enjoy it.
@aaguirre1239 жыл бұрын
+David Pratte I just want to add this also, instead of you guys driving the car on the track let the owner of the car drive it with your equipment on board to record the lap and be a consultant or something. And also Since you guys are well connected in the mod car industry you can invite a stig to drive a car and have a guessing game with the viewers for a price or something.
@atraxr6039 жыл бұрын
I had APEXi coilovers on my cossy and it drove just as good as stock. Actually ride was firmer, lot safer and still compliant. I was really surprised by it back then, as I always thought that lowering your car will make it stiff and a pain in the ass to live with (pun intended), but I couldn't be more wrong. It was great. Since then I always do this. Obviously more of a track oriented ones will be stiffer, but these that are meant for normal roads and a track day here and there are perfect. You still keep the ride quality while at the same time improving the handling and looks of course. :D Cutting your springs tho, as many like to do, is a different matter. Spring cutting is a pet peeve of mine, cause I know how dangerous it can be. My friend just bounced straight off the road with cut springs. Not to mention you had to drive it like on egg shells not to wipe out somewhere... I won't even mention the ride quality...

@speedacademy7 жыл бұрын
Honestly, the lack of real aftermarket support for those motors doesnt make it a good car for track use. You'd have to get into a 2JZ-GTE swap and that brings a host of other problems with it. Personally, I would buy a different car to build for the track unless you have a good budget to work with.

I agree peter, but in my opinion changing dampers to adjust body roll is more of a bandaid instead of a proper fix. Plus if you stiffen things up the tires may not be able to fallow the road correctly.
@speedacademydave9 жыл бұрын
+Benjamin Zipsie increasing damper stiffness is far from a bandaid solution IMO. Not only does increasing rebound stiffness help control body motion in roll, it also helps control it in pitch, so unlike swaybars we're getting the benefit of better motion control both laterally and longitudinally. The whole point of adjustable dampers is to be able to alter the car's handling balance and body motion control (since shock rebound controls the unsprung mass of the vehicle, it has a significant effect on roll and pitch control). Swaybars are a much cruder method, as they are either non-adjustable or limited to 2 or 3 positions of adjustability, while dampers like these have 24 positions of adjustability and thus provide a much higher tuning resolution. Furthermore, we can turn the dampers back down for the street, so we get the best of both worlds, a comfy ride on the street and a firmer ride at the track, while with swaybars you do not have that option (increasing swaybar stiffness is comparable to increasing spring rates). We've played around with swaybars and they upset ride quality (especially on the rough roads here in Ontario) far more than dampers do, so I'm personally far more interested in tuning handling balance and ride quality with shocks than I am with swaybars.
@owixomen9 жыл бұрын
+David Pratte I dont disagree but they designed anti sway bars to control the sway of the car. or the roll. The job of the dampers is to control the body and wheels in relation to the road. considering that the job of the damper is vary demanding wouldn't you say taking the body roll and relegating that to something a little more suited to control it "sway bars" would allow the dampers to better do the job they are designed to handle. in turn improving the overall handling of the car. the part about they "the sway bars" are only 2 or 3 what adjustable. this is true but what about all the different company. eibach, st, white line. all the company's use different diameter tubes hollow vrs. not hollow. that is alot of options for adjust ability.
@speedacademydave9 жыл бұрын
Not exactly, Ben. The damper is designed to control the springs, this system being the primary method of controlling body motion, including roll and pitch. Swaybars are a secondary method of tuning body roll, and a far cruder one than dampers and springs. Remember, the shock's rebound valving is what controls the sprung mass of the vehicle and thus plays a huge roll in determining how the overall suspension reacts to weight transfer and body roll. The shock's compression valving is what controls the unsprung mass of the car, which is also a very important part of generating traction and grip since compression damping is what holds the tire to the ground when encountering bumps. Swaybars simply help limit roll, but it's a simple device without any of the advanced damping properties or tuning properties of an adjustable shock like these. Here's a story I recently wrote on the subject: speed.academy/which-way-do-i-turn-the-knob-how-to-adjust-dampers-coilovers-hard-soft/
@owixomen9 жыл бұрын
You Shouldnt be using the dampers to adjust body roll. the sway bars, use the sway bars to adjust body roll.
@PeterTarach9 жыл бұрын
+Benjamin Zipsie Dampers can help reduce body roll and when you don't have sway bars to adjust they're the next best solution.

@350110thave7 жыл бұрын
I just installed these fortune autos with swift springs as well some figs toe links, rear lca, front uca and sway bars. But my ride feels so bouncy and shakey with soft or hard dampening. Did I do something wrong? I also couldn't get the ride height equal and haven't got an alignment. Please let me know. Spend a lot of time installing...
@speedacademy7 жыл бұрын
It takes alot of work to dial in the ride height, we spent over 4 hours on our Civic and you certainly need an alignment so don't forget that. If you added a lot of spherical mounts with the suspension parts then the ride will be much more harsh but I think your sway bars could be adding to your harsh ride. The springs are already stiff then adding sway bars can make the entire suspension even stiffer and add less compliance. Maybe remove the sways and see how it drives?
@bobs92425 жыл бұрын
Hey man I have similar setup with these exact coils with same Swift spring rates and figs parts and my ride is also a bit bouncy. Soaks bumps good but still too soft rates and body roll. I had way less body roll with my shocks and springs but I was lower and a bit more aggressive camber
