They really went all Hollywood with this version. Had the parents actually fight back and give the sadistic couple a run for their money and even gave you a happy ending. The original Danish version, the parents were spineless in particular the father and the ending was just so bleak and depressing.

Sorta.. for me the story is about him liking the chase and role playing to feed into his habits. In this movie they show more of his narcissistic side of things throughout the whole movie..the couple is just very passive and don't want center of attention ao they hide in they bubble. So he knows they won't do anything so just playe with them more about not being honest with themselves. But I think his motivated was to have a family and to keep bringing money in to keep carrying it on. Grooming the children for his own pleasure as well and using them to trap other couples to make easier targets...

@ James macavoy was great. The original has that element, but the movie is about something else entirely. The 2022 movie is about complacency and not standing up for yourself. The true horror of what these people did is never fully realized in this American version.
