I'm an associate licensed therapist here in Atl. Unlike a lot of commenters on social media, I wasn't mad at Kandi's comments about mental health. Not bc they weren't problematic, but bc they were common. One of the biggest problems surrounding mental health is the lack of understanding. So many people have various personal experiences (either lived or observed) that cause them to develop an incomplete picture of what mental health is. It doesn't have a "look". I think it would go a long way for the viewing public to see Kandi make efforts to learn more about mental health, as she obviously struggled with even choosing the right language in the last 2 episodes of Speak On It. I just watched an interview with Allison, Drew's sister, and it would be informative to see her on a future Speak On It. Listening to her speak, particularly as someone without an education psychology or counseling, she has a strong foundation of knowledge that most people do not have. If not Allison, she could still interview a licensed therapist or psychologist to just have the conversation and educate ie. Dr. Joy Harden Bradford who (I believe) also lives in Atlanta. I will always be a supporter of Kandi and truly believe her statements demonstrate a lack of understanding as opposed to malice (unlike Courtney). Please keep doing what you do, I love your work and best wishes.
