It's very simple. 'speak' implies one person simply saying something or making a statement, whereas 'talk' implies a discussion or a conversation between two or more people. They are interchangeable in some contexts, with little difference in meaning, but this is the general difference between the two. 👍🏾

it's always " speak with" and "talk to"
@adrieltruther982
@adrieltruther982 7 жыл бұрын
On the other hand, many other constructions work just as well with either (though they might have subtly different meanings), for example speak to ... talk to speak with ... talk with speak about ... talk about english.stackexchange.com/questions/140463/whats-the-difference-between-speak-and-talk-grammatically-speaking
@roscianyt
@roscianyt 7 жыл бұрын
The first 'speak to' example I came up with, funny enough, was "Speak to Me" the song from Pink Floyd. But the point is that it's not always 'speak with' and 'talk to'.

does "there are times when"mean occasionally or sometimes
@roscianyt
@roscianyt 7 жыл бұрын
Good question. If we believe that 'occasionally' means at different points in time, and if we believe 'sometimes' means something happens only during certain circumstances then I think 'sometimes' seems to be the more appropriate definition. So, yes "there are times when' means 'sometimes'.

Sorry to say, madam, you are mispronouncing the word 'speak' most of the times, coz you're aspirating the 'p' sound. But. aspiration of 'p' 'k' and 't' is not done in case of 'allophonic variations', for example, when the 's' sound is attached to those three sounds right before them. cornucopian people like me have been pouring in to learn from here, I mean many many of us are going to follow your pronounciation too, consciously or unconsciously, so please speak Indian English, speak RP, speak American English if you like, whatever English you speak, please follow the minimum norms of that. Thank you,

@roscianyt
@roscianyt 7 жыл бұрын
I like that quote but more typos. 'Overwhelmed' should be 'overwhelming' and 'on' should be 'of'. Also, in the second sentence, are you quoting the author? If so, you need to write the sentence like this- He replied, "I enjoy it because it is a sign that people are really reading my book."
