In the past I rode a motorbike, but more than twenty years ago I exchanged this habit for cycling, which is much more environmentally friendly. Since then, I have made almost all my trips by bicycle and I advise all those who are genuinely concerned about their health and our biodiversity to do the same. You will see that it is easy to get used to it. ; ) I really appreciate this lesson, teacher! Thanks so much for uploading it and have a great week!

What a great lesson! To be clear, it is possible to use 'used to' without a verb, when the past action is already understood, such as when answering a question. So, it is more correct to say that 'used to' always refers to a verb action. "Do you have a motorcycle?" -- "I used to..." (this is a common way to use it). A person might elaborate still without using the verb referred to, as: "Do you have a motorcycle? -- "I used to but I sold it."
@englishspeaking360
@englishspeaking360 6 ай бұрын
Absolutely! You can just say "I used to" when the rest of the sentence is implied. Excellent observation! Thanks 🤩

Final Thoughts: All three answers ("I used to go rock climbing," "I got used to rock climbing," and "I am used to rock climbing") could be valid, depending on the context. a) is correct if the speaker no longer climbs. b) is correct because the speaker had to adapt to rock climbing at some point. c) is correct if the speaker still rock climbs regularly. The best answer depends on what aspect of the speaker's experience the sentence is highlighting-whether it's their past habit, the process of adaptation, or their current comfort level. You're right-there is not enough information to definitively say that "I used to go rock climbing" is incorrect. The phrase "I used to" does indeed refer to a past habit or activity, but it doesn't always imply that the speaker completely stopped the activity due to lack of interest or ability. As you mentioned, someone could have mastered a hobby like rock climbing to the point where it's "second nature" but may no longer do it due to various reasons such as time constraints, shifting interests, or taking on new challenges. Revised Explanation: a) I used to go rock climbing. Possible. If the person no longer goes rock climbing, this answer could be correct. "I used to" refers to a past habit or regular activity that is no longer happening, which fits if the speaker has stopped climbing despite it once being second nature. However, without more context (e.g., whether the speaker still climbs or not), it's unclear whether this is the best choice. b) I got used to rock climbing. Possible. This phrase implies a process of adaptation to rock climbing, which the speaker would have undergone at some point, especially since rock climbing is a skill that requires learning and practice. Even though rock climbing is now second nature to the speaker, they still had to get used to it at some point, which makes this option valid.
@englishspeaking360
@englishspeaking360 3 күн бұрын
Hello, in the rock climbing example, only 1 answer is right given the information provided. The correct answer is: C) I am used to rock climbing. Explanation: The phrase "Rock climbing is like second nature to me" means that the speaker is very comfortable and familiar with rock climbing. "I am used to [something]" means that an activity or situation has become normal or easy because of repeated exposure. Therefore, "I am used to rock climbing" is the correct choice. Why not A or B? A) I used to go rock climbing refers to a past habit that the speaker no longer does. This does not fit the context since rock climbing is still part of the speaker's life. B) I got used to rock climbing describes the process of becoming accustomed to something, which isn't relevant here since the speaker is already familiar with it.
