Love this video bro opened a clear book, was really struggling with the REW, I did not have the Behringer flat mic so i use my cm47 condenser mic in omni, downloaded the Freq response for that mic from the website and compensated for it at the final eq level, works like magic, thanks for making it so simple, cheers love your videos.

Thanks for this tutorial! But I paid attention to one thing. In the apo equalizer after applying equalization and increasing the signal level, the peak level of the output signal was 10.8 dB. In this case, we have digital clipping, but the limiter built into the APO will work, which will affect the sound quality (in particular, the sound dynamics). It seems to me, in this situation, it will be more correct to adjust the output sound level through the audio interface.
@RecordingStudio9
@RecordingStudio9 5 жыл бұрын
Thanks. I think your reference level in REW was too high and you had to compensate by increasing eq level too high. Might try again with lower reference point, i.e. 70db

@@RecordingStudio9 I apologize, I wrote incorrectly. I meant that you have the same situation) Overload on the output level, after applying the equalization and increasing the gain (17:04). Take a look at the “Estimated property” section below in the APO, there is a line “Peak gain” and red numbers. But the graph on the right shows this too. Red zones. The fact is that in real work with the material (music, for example), in such cases, the limiter itself turned on (system limiter or APO, I don’t know for sure), it was clearly audible.

Thanks for the video it was very helpful. Noticed one mistake though: you put EQ BW-values (in octaves) where you were supposed to use Q-factor in Equalizer APO. You should convert the BW values to Q-factor to use in equalizer APO (or maybe REW can produce these also). Also I don't know if it's possible in REW but you could calibrate left and right speaker separately for best stereo imaging especially if your room is not totally symmetric in proportion to your speaker placement.

thanks for the video! but i have a question, is booting up a frequency over 3db normal? In this video, some eqs boost the frequency up to 6db, 9db...etc... that is not good for speaker!
@RecordingStudio9
@RecordingStudio9 7 жыл бұрын
You need to know the specification of your speaker. If you have a small 3 inch speaker that can go only as low as 100Hz, there is no point to set EQ level at 50Hz or even 80Hz, as the speaker cannot produce the sound. In this case, yes, you are correct.

Its been a long time since I used RoomEQ wizz so I checked your first vid on this regarding the setup. I followed all the steps set the spl using an app set the mic to -18 etc etc and every mearsurement I did resulted in a graph that was off the scale in terms of db. You cold see little parts where it ducked under the 180db max limit. I am sure I must be missing something and just wondered if you had any ideas, I would love to get some measurements done before I start putting up my acoustic treatment for a before and after comparison. Thanks for your clear and well thought out vids. Best Simon

Where do I select full scale, I have a feeling thats what I missed. There is no point in me sending you a screen capture as the graph comes out being way over the 180db limit of the graph so you can only see little bits where it dips under the 180 db limit ie the very top of the graph window. There is no way my levels were that high...

You just modify on software and it din't effect to your physical room sound. I think you should guide room sound correction as well. Love your video!
@RecordingStudio9
@RecordingStudio9 7 жыл бұрын
Thanks. By changing the frequency response of the speakers, it compensates room sound, so you get balanced level. If you add room acoustic treatment, then less of EQ you require to balance the audio spectrum. Hope that makes sense.

Hey man love your videos. quick question. Is there a big difference between hardware equalizers, compressors, limiters and gates compared to the ones on my "studio one" recording software? The ones on studio one sound amazing.
@RecordingStudio9
@RecordingStudio9 8 жыл бұрын
+Nikk “NikkA” Walter Good question. The price is one of the difference. Hardware gear cost more then VST plug-in. As to sound quality and sonic, most high end VST will match the same characteristics of hardware gear, hence most VST's are named after the hardware equivalent. If you are looking into purchasing a hardware gear, I would recommend to start with compressor. Very handy, as you can slightly compress and take care of any sudden peaks in incoming audio without clipping your audio interface. I use my PHONIC PCL 3200 for stereo line Gate, Compression and Limiting and my PreSonus Studio Channel Tube Pre for mics, specially vocals. This way, I hardly need to add any plug-ins in Studio One. As to EQ hardware, I don't have any (yet). My DEQ2496 is for room acoustic balancing. Though I can patch it if I feel the need. Hope this answers.

Great video! I have one question. Why is microphone positioned upwards (under angle)? Thank you
@RecordingStudio9
@RecordingStudio9 8 жыл бұрын
+GrandBeats.com Depending on the size of the room and the location of the mic. Normally in a studio environment, you would have pointing up at the sweet-spot location. In a hall for live event, it would point at an angle, from the middle-centre of the audience. I'm no expert, and you might want to read more about it.

Great Video is there an APP like EqualizerAPO32-1.1.1 for Mac I'm trying something called Boom 2, but it's not the Same. your saying I can use the Measurement data in a EQ plugin at the end off the chain in my DAW on the master buss. Just remove this EQ before printing the mix correct.
@RecordingStudio9
@RecordingStudio9 8 жыл бұрын
Yes, that is correct. You need to bypass the EQ before printing. Must be the last effect on the master bus.

Thanks for the quick reply! Don't worry about it. I just tried running this RoomEQ and couldn't get a good reading anyway. The program appears to be somewhat involved and I don't think it's worth the trouble for me to even deal with it. I'm not sure if it's because I'm not using a "Sound Card" but an audio interface which to me, is basically the same thing. In any event, I ran it more for curiosity than anything else. Thanks again!

do you know if there is a way to put diffrent filters for the left and the right speakers ?
@RecordingStudio9
@RecordingStudio9 8 жыл бұрын
Measure each speaker separately and use the filter details to apply to each channel of the DEQ2496 as 2 mono EQ channels. If using Equaliser APO software, you may need to read the instructions. If using a VST plug-in on the master bus, you need to find a EQ VST that has separate left & right channel option.
@muziekmindtwister
@muziekmindtwister 8 жыл бұрын
Yes i meant the APO software, i cant get it to work for both channels individual. Cant find info about it so i thought maybe you know. But i will search some more and place the awnser here when i find it.
@muziekmindtwister
@muziekmindtwister 8 жыл бұрын
Okay so i found the awnser already, just hit the plus button and under the control menu choose channel. load your left and right speaker file by using the include option in the control menu. Now the important thing which i coudnt get to work is that you need to set it in the right order. channel select - inlcude file (left or right speaker) and then again channel select following the include file. Quite simpel though if you know thats how it works.

even after the calibration, my frequencies response is still far from "flat", any suggestion?
@RecordingStudio9
@RecordingStudio9 7 жыл бұрын
+- 3db, about 6db difference from the highest peak at any frequency to the lowest dip at any frequency, is what the best you can achieve with reasonable quality speakers (~ $3000 a pair and up). Aim for +- 6db, and that should give you pretty accurate and flat response. if your sound sweep audio level was at 76db, then find the lowest frequncy that drops below 70db, that is your low point. than do the same for high frequency. This is your speaker's frequency range. Than, take care of any dips below 70db and peaks above 82db, to closer to 76db. Hope this helps.

REW does not correct anything. It simple reports the response graph. You need to use EqualizerAPO software or some other method to correct it.

@RecordingStudio9
@RecordingStudio9 8 жыл бұрын
+catonlsd3 It is all about how accurate you want your speakers balanced. It is a personal preference, as well as the quality of the speakers. Thanks for your input.
@catonlsd3
@catonlsd3 8 жыл бұрын
+RecordingStudio9.com It is probably a personal preference to a point... Now, I'm not saying to compensate for every comb-filter peak/notch as that's overshooting the goal here... But since there are 12 notes per oct, I assume that a smoothing of 1/12 might be fair enough ... I usually use at least 1/24 since I can always disable and/or tweak the generated filter bands as I please :) . Another thing; while testing, the headroom goes into positive/red ... Isn't that clipping the input? and AFAIK, the mic should be pointed at the ceiling, no?
@RecordingStudio9
@RecordingStudio9 8 жыл бұрын
+catonlsd3 While my 1/3rd octave might be a bit low, it still shows and explains the concept. I agree 1/12 is more ideal, as this is the setting on my DEQ2496 (it has its own RTA mic input and analysis). As to RTA mic position, pointing up is common, as the pattern is omni-directional (sphere). It depends if you want to capture reflective sound or not.
@catonlsd3
@catonlsd3 8 жыл бұрын
+RecordingStudio9.com hmm, interesting to tilt the mic slightly forward, I think I'm gonna try that too. I'm in the process of upgrading my room's acoustic treatment and need to play with measurements again... installing some super-chunk corner "bass-traps" pretty soon.... really curious on the results.
@RecordingStudio9
@RecordingStudio9 8 жыл бұрын
+catonlsd3 If you can, measure your current room results, with 2 mic positions and compare them with new acoustic treatment. Please let me know the result. I'm interested. I certainly got different results without and with acoustic treatment, specially the waterfall (reflections).
