Honestly can't imagine what happened. I've had amps blow up, speakers blow out, but the first is a feisty bang of components blowing up (not even close to 100dBA) and then the speakers going silent and the second is the speaker itself tearing because the signal it receives is too much. No clue what could have made this happen. I'm sure the speaker has blown out because of the pop, but what was the origin of the pop?

Yes. He lost his hearing in one ear almost instantly, which means he suffered physical trauma to his eardrum, and he also was trying to perform on-stage afterwards without knowing if his hearing would come back. Oh yeah, and he's in the States, so thinking someone had just fired a gun at you probably isn't a big stretch of the imagination, particularly if he'd pissed off some anti-woke nutjob with his routine. So yes, traumatic is the correct word to use.
@iheartbinary
@iheartbinary Жыл бұрын
@You just lost the game Your body experiences trauma whether you think you can ignore it or not. I recently experienced it with something as simple as getting a toenail removed that wasn't growing correctly. There was no pain during the operation, I was completely numbed up and I didn't look directly at it. I went home perfectly fine and in good condition. The next day when I woke up and saw it, I was immediately filled with some sort of sense of loss or dread, I felt like throwing up, and I slightly panicked. Thankfully I was warned about this by my nurse who told me to use any available coping mechanisms for anxiety, which for me happened to be breathing exercises and a bit of mindfulness meditation to basically just wait the feeling out until it went away. I can't imagine experiencing something similar, but live in front of an audience and with no pain killers or blocked view of what just happened. (As well as mix in the fear that a gun just went off since it was a loud bang and no one knows what happened right away)

@@jakedasnake9247 No probs. I'm a big believer in using words correctly, and the word "trauma" has, unfortunately, been misused for decades until fairly recently. It's only in the last decade or so that we started to see it being used properly, but unfortunately that led to a lot of people who've been using it improperly pushing back against it. Anyway, thank you for being open-minded about it all. That's a rare thing, nowadays!

This was heartbreaking and inspiring to watch. Im a licensed mental health therapist who is specialized in trauma.THIS was so sad to watch. You were clearly dealing with a trauma and your nervous system was flooded and overwhelmed. It was a very normal reaction to a very scary perceived threat. It's also very scary to suddenly lose your hearing. To only hear from one side.. to feel thrown off and likely also not real too. Your brain was shaving a hard time thinking, putting words together and using executive functions ( logical).. due to the need to go into fight/flight/freeze mode. Yet, you stayed, you did your best and i admire your work ethic!! I truly hope you healed from this and don't deal with any vertigo, tinnitus, or any ear issues as well as any anxiety from it. Watching this made me tear up, seeing how much you were struggling but the fact that you stayed on stage and were committed to finishing the show - that takes so much strength, courage, and dedication and I can't even really explain how inspiring it is. You could've easily walked off the stage and that would've been the end of the show, but you took the time to take a deep breath and compose yourself and finished what you came there to do. It also shows how much you care for your fans, wanting them to get their moneys worth and have a good experience. It was so heartwarming to see the kind reaction from the audience too

The “Help. 😥” he let out when talking to the physician, felt half joking, half extremely serious. What a great audience, there’s always that one (shirt guy), but everyone else there seemed so concerned for your health, not the show at that point. It must’ve been so scary for so many reasons, the noise and not knowing what caused it, the split second of wondering if there’s a shooting, realizing you can’t hear out of one ear, while in front of a huge audience, you did so amazing Drew. Wishing you a speedy recovery 💜
@crayder1100

Why is everyone bashing shirt guy lol, he was genuinely trying to help. For some people when they are freaking out taking your shirt off makes you feel less constricted, cools you off, and helps calm you down. This doesn't apply to everyone though obviously, like people with social anxiety or disorders.
@Nanashi20
@Nanashi20 Жыл бұрын
I agree with corey here, the guy who shouted to take the shirt off, most likely meant the vest he was wearing, to try and be less constricted, and even cool down, as when you're having a moment like that, your temperature begins to rise from the nervousness. Everyone was trying to help one way or another, from saying to take a sip of water, to being told to stop if hes feeling that bad.

I've only just discovered and subscribed to Drew Lynch. The audience really was great and it made me really happy to see the audience being so supportive and encouraging. When it comes to comedy performances I personally appreciate when the comedian or actor makes a mistake, starts laughing on stage, or anything unexpected happens. I think I appreciate the vulnerability the performer is experiencing in the moment. Even if they break character or break the fourth wall I feel like it's worth seeing the actor be themself for a minute. That's why it was so nice to see the audience caring and trying to help. Knowing he's let the audience in already by talking about something personal like his stutter, it's nice seeing their willingness to get involved and cheer him on. ❤

This kind of thing is really serious Drew. Hope you're alright. My Mum was a waitress at a 5-star hotel doing a silver service about 25 years ago. It was usually dark in the event room and extremely busy so being occupied with moving back and forth to the kitchen etc. the servers pay no attention to how close the speakers are even though they're quite loud. She walked by the stage with a band playing and the speaker blew, literally knocking her to the floor. Her colleagues, guests and the band helped her to a seat and then down to the front of the hotel, where my Dad came to collect her. The disorientation, tinnitus and pain disappeared after a few days but she's grown gradually more and more deaf in that ear ever since and now only has about 10% range in it. The other ear is perfectly fine. She has to watch TV with subtitles though and tilt her head when trying to hear someone talking to her. All because of a speaker.

I was at this show, incredible performance. A lady was trying to get him to bend over for tips at one point. The speaker exploding felt as loud as a gunshot, and I was about 20 or so rows from the stage. It's incredible how something like that can immediately undo years of speech therapy. However, maybe not. I know how loud it was for me so I can't begin to imagine how rattled his brain was in the aftermath. Don't let that scare you away from coming back to Joliet, where the fuck are we again?, Illinois.
