The video offers a very detailed insight into the history, development and present context of the Mandapeshwar Caves. The accompanying visuals were also quite interesting!

When compared to other caves of the Western Ghats, the Mandapeshwar and Karla caves seem to be the only ones which are now used as sites of worship by faiths other than Buddhism. Does this imply that these sites did not fell into disuse or obscurity after their patron dynasties declined, and over time became associated with the new dominant beliefs of the surrounding lands? Also, it might be worthwhile to ponder why these caves do not have murals like the Ajanta caves, or did their murals not survive the ravages of time?

Never knew that these caves were used for religious purposes other than that of Jainism, Buddhism and the Vedic religion! The caves of the Western ghats have long been used as a shelter by monks, travellers and traders, as it was an important trade and pilgrimage route. Moreover, comparison of the different caves of the western ghats shows us the difference in religion practiced in certain regions, as well as the patronage and craftsmanship of the place.
