Just a few weeks ago I found myself actually listening to Spanish and understanding it without translating to English in my head. And when I read, I used to read the Spanish translated to English in my head but I just found myself reading in Spanish and understanding without having to put it into English. I don’t know how but it just happened and now I feel more comfortable listening to Spanish now

Talking to yourself is one of the best techniques you can do to accelerate your way to fluency. I constantly did this when learning Spanish. And attaching meaning/images to words I was learning. And also learning words in context. We’re on the same page brother. This is the natural way of learning a language. Deliberate, strategic practice.

When I'm back in Mexico with my wife's family, I find tequila helps--It breaks the translation machinery in your head and forces you to relax into the language you have already acquired. Needless to say, too much will have the opposite effect and you may just end up making an ass of yourself. Great post Rocky.

I did an interview with myself using a deep voice as the interviewer and a higher voice as the interviewee. I played it back and made a couple more. Played them back and was pretty pleased. Yes! Talk to yourself because it’s great practice. Ask yourself all kinds of questions and then answer, using the conjunctions and the prepositional phrases to link sentences together. You know, “fillers”. You will have an awesome time doing this exercise and when you do it daily, you can go practice with real natives in their places of business when you go to buy groceries or sports merch, or whatever! It’s fun!

I have deviated some from your plan. I am writing down each phrase about 50 times. I am then going to make flash cards of each phrase with the translation on back and randomly select them to test myself. I am strong on some but weak on others. I will work on those I struggle with the hardest. Keep on keeping on. I am and have learned a great deal. Great classes.

I want to actually converse and feel normal lol.. I luv them so much bc strangers treated me better than blood and those I thought were my friends.. whew they even brought me a bday cake and invited me to their homes and also want me to be financially stable they are showing me ways to help build my credit an make a better way for my family and leave something for my child n GRANDCHILD.. My only wish is knowing them earlier but god places ppl in your life at certain times whether you seek GROWTH or whether they are there only for lessons. I'm forever grateful

Rocky- you are Rad. I'm so inspired. I speak a bit of Spanish. I'd say I can read and understand more than I can speak. A video like this hits the nail on the head though. I do still constantly find myself doing exactly this. Hearing something in Spanish, translating to english and then trying to figure out how to respond in Spanish. This video helped give me tips to immerse and try to overcome this. I do definitely do one of the step. I only speak to my cat in Spanish, and because I am in a long distance relationship with someone who knows very little english, I find myself speaking to myself in Spanish and practicing things I'd like talk about with him so i can have a decent conversation without using translation apps.

I am working on learning Spanish. I have been at it off and on for a while. Over 4 months ago, I picked it back up and have been studying it daily. I do Duolingo daily but I always turn my phone side ways to listen. I try hard at not translating so there are times I just pick up context clues and get the sentence right. The biggest issue I had was the linking of words. Use to drive me crazy. I then researched and found the rules on linking and dipthongs. After I do my normal studying, I now finish my study off every night listen to you. I also use my Talk Now CD which has a game that times you and score you based on how fast you click on what it says before the screen changes. It was addictive but I can now remember all those words without translating. Keep up the good work.

my spanish learning journey has phases ... my strong point has always been reading and writing in Spanish , then speaking it then all of a sudden got better. Now i’m having to work a lot on my listening in spanish conversation . But then one day my friend from Honduras was voice noting me in only spanish and we do this every day now ... i understood almost everything he said .... and i was amazed and cudnt figure out how this was happening 🤯. i do need to brush up listening in convos with spanish speakers from all different countries tho, as i think i got used to my Honduran friends accent the most. But it went from minimal in all mentioned aspects and then one day i realised i was just better at these things and my native spanish peers noticed and all mentioned this to me ..... mi español es mejor ahora. i had my first dream in Spanish a couple weeks ago. That was very strange to me ... Hasn’t happened since , but it’s funny you mentioned this as i didn’t think it meant a lot. Thanks for your tips on this video . 😊👌🏾

Sounds so obvious when you say it: remember phrases, not words. I think this is what I've been doing wrong, and why it's so hard to speak. Thanks. I translate in my head to speak, but not to listen. I hear in phrases, but learn in individual words. That's a huge difference.

Check out these videos kzbin.info/www/bejne/gJCogneqpb6GhK8 & kzbin.info/www/bejne/nJ-4lJKNaN14Z9k They were both really helpful/inspirational for me. Also look up the show "extra en español" it's free on youtube, and was the first show I decoded and used to learn with. If you just put in 30 minutes a day or more for 5 or more days a week you'll get good really quickly. I started learning spanish at 20, two years ago, and today I can understand content created for native speakers, and I regularly talk with co-workers in spanish. The key is to not rush, and just make it a habbit. The first 3 or so months suck because you have to build from 0, but once you get to an intermediate level, and you can understand about 75% of what's being said, you can practice simply by listening, looking up words that you don't know, and doing brief grammar reviews when you feel like you need to. this makes the whole experience much more easy and fun after the initial hump. It's also a really amazing experence the first time you realize you're understanding someone speak without having to put in any effort to understand them. Other stuff worth checking out is "matt vs japan" which is a language learning channel, and "anki" which is a flashcard application that will only show you cards that you're about to forget, or don't know yet. This way you can save time by not studying stuff you already know. Another thing that I find helpful is creating a different youtube account that you only use to watch spanish language content. This way you wont get reccomended english videos, and you can find spanish-speaking content creators. Sorry this comment is a bit of a ramble, but just know that if you really want to learn, you don't have to move to a foriegn country thanks to the internet, and you don't have to be a kid when you start, everyone can do it :)

If you dream in Spanish but didn't know what they were saying, does that count as some improvement? 😜 This channel is very helpful. Just discovered as I'm taking up the language more seriously than before. What is the average time it takes to become bilingual?
@SpeakSpanishFaster
@SpeakSpanishFaster 3 жыл бұрын
Lol it does count as improvement because subconsciously you are recognizing words and patterns in Spanish. There really is no time limit. It depends how much you practice. I would say it's more of an hours thing. Let's say it takes like 300-500 hours to be fluent, depending on what language/s you already speak. So if you studied 10 minutes a day vs. 1 hour a day it makes a big difference. Just one hour a day for a just a year and you would see CRAZY progression.
