I'd say it was about 7 years ago.... I had been invited to go dive with Spencer Haskins on his boat. We met down at Pohoiki and had dis GUY crackin smart ass jokes at Spence an I was like...."Who dis guy tink he is?" lol Turns out, it was one of THE best divers in the world!!! Justin and Spence are really good friends and I didn't know that.... Anyways, water was super dirty and we all didn't have much luck that day....

Hi Ryan, another great video. I like to hear about safety. I like the time you took to talk about the dangers of a "W" dive vs. a "U' dive when you dropped back down to smash that Mu. It's really worth talking about. A few months back I rescued my dive partner from a blackout caused by that exact issue. In his case he went down to unstick a shaft after a missed shot, I recognized the danger and immediately dropped down to safety him. He gave me the Thumbs up right to the surface. Even decided to say "I'm okay" rather than focussing on the Hook breaths.. and then faceplanted and had a Samba.. Luckily for him and his young son, everything turned out okay. Please continue to share safety info. We respect you as one of the best divers in the USA. Thanks, and keep up the Good work. Realllllllly looking forward to this next video. Jon/Ulusub

Ryan, just a simple suggestion if you have ti leaf or banana leaf around your apartment complex or in the neighborhood or on your drive to and from home lay a ti leaf or a piece of banana leaf in the bottom of your pan and on top of the fish before you tap the pan with foil the leafs will prevent the skin from sticking and also improve the streaming process in cooking and make the food easier to handle. If Justin has ti leaf or banana plants in his yard you can ask him for some. Mahalo Bruddah Ryan for your awesome videos and I look forward to your next expedition.

A couple tips for shooting the bow: You don't want to grip the bow tightly. After getting drawn back, loosen your grip to the point that your fingers aren't even touching the grip, so they are just kind of hovering around it to catch the bow after the shot. A tight grip is an accuracy killer. Also, you want to have a slight bend to your left elbow, and if you rotate your left hand just slightly clockwise, with a loose grip to not torque the bow, it'll kick your elbow out and help to prevent getting that string slap on your forearm. When you anchor for the shot, make sure that the string is only touching your nose enough to feel it. Any actual pressure from your nose, on the string, will also mess with your accuracy. Good luck on getting out there and getting your first hog!
@Andy-lt2pt4 жыл бұрын
Definitely good advice.

That other goat with the white and black spot is a "Malu" or sidespot goatfish. they are native to Hawaii but rare. my main dive partner holds the HSD record for that fish. They are excellent eating but very few of them around so gotta be even more restrained when targeting that species. I'm surprised Justin didn't know that goat.
