Uffda, another great video. Kinda embarrassed but I’ve I’ve fished MN my whole life and never have been spearing. I guess that’s the next challenge. Great video!

How do you deal with the y-bones? Do you fillet around them, or do you pickle them? I know it takes a bit of practice to fillet around them correctly, and the few times I tried to to fillet them it was challenging. When I worked for GLIFWC most folks I talked to ended up pickling them.
@UnReelMinnesota15 күн бұрын
I just cut them out. I agree, it takes some practice. Pike over 24” are easier to learn on

What lake is this? I’ve been looking for a nice pike lake like this to bring my son and this seems perfect.
@henryflemming15 күн бұрын
What range of depth do you think is the best for spearing?
@UnReelMinnesota15 күн бұрын
My favorite is 5-8 ft, near deeper water, but you can have success at any depth, even >30ft, it really depends on the lake.
@RobertNelson-i5y15 күн бұрын
I know what lake your on your brother is right I fished it 44 years and my family speared there too my teacher caught a 25lb pike out that lake 40 years ago I get 36 plus inch fish every year and release them

@RobertNelson-i5y14 күн бұрын
@ this lake feed me as kid I will not share the name because it’s got other nice size fish besides just pike. This lake has feed me since I was 6 years old. I grew up poor plus my family used to spear this lake ourselves and ice fished it since 1920. It’s been a family secret for a long time.

When the water is open, its easy to get around a lake and hit a bunch of spots, on the ice its harder to cover as much ground

Absolutely not, we have another one in the works. Keep an eye out around Jan25/26th

Why pul the blocks; never have, never will. Totally a waste of time and your back will thank you.
@UnReelMinnesota14 күн бұрын
If you pull and then replace them, the hole freezes much quicker. And in certain scenarios, the blocks being pushed under the ice can spook fish. I understand not everyone is strong enough to pull them out though.
@aaronalto303413 күн бұрын
@@UnReelMinnesota How would you know if the block pushed under sitting 5-15 ft to the side spooked fish? Unique habitat features can be a draw too? There's no way to know, so choose your pleasure and saw more, and move and lift big ice chunks. They do look cool as out of the water.
