My learning curve from your entertaining vid is....even though it one is not seeing the desirable species wanted, or even expected to be in that area, there's always something to admire/appreciate for the day's activities, ready to give it a crack on another day...it never remains the same, always something new to share with your friends and family 😀....awesome raw fish recipe 😀...I'll be giving that one a bit of attention, for sure. Love the honesty about the kingi shot bro 👌💯😎 I was at White Island last Saturday speared my first ever kingi but lost it 😣 my shot placement was above the spine just in front of the kingis fin and it was a big kingi too but a few shakes and the spear ripped out.. I was gutted to say the least but I guess that's how it goes sometimes.. Loved the recipe you shared too.

Yeah bro, need to be a lot closer to fish than people think. most of all my shots are probably 2-3 m max which doesnt sound like a lot but underwater is reasonable. Really appreciate your tips on what you do when out there. How to approach ledges, etc. It's so helpful when you don't have anyone local to learn from etc.. ref kingies= what is it like shooting one using a reel versus gun and float?
@olliecraig-primalpursuit3 жыл бұрын
Hey Craig, glad to help. I actually have never shot one on a traditional setup. My first speargun I had setup straight away with a reel so have never tried another way.. I myself, have never liked the idea of my gun getting dragged over a reef down below. The shooting line on a reel is of course thinner than a float line on terms of grabbing holding onto but other than that if the reel is good quality and re spooled every few months so that the line isn’t tangled then I don’t see what the big fuss about reels is danger wise. I’ve said it before, and still think that most crappy float lines people use are more of a danger than having a reel gun as so easy to tangle up etc when diving.

Hey mate, wicked content as usual. Question, how do you equalise ? New to the sport. Any tips or tricks? I have trouble often which a really annoying. Cheers
@lucasorr40383 жыл бұрын
Have the same issue bro, eating dairy products really clogs up your air way system behind your nose and ears. It’s all connected after all, same reason why people say not to eat dairy when you have a cold/runny nose. Not having clogged up, sticky airways Helped me quite a bit with my poor equalise. Plenty of guys can eat dairy all day long and still equalise properly but it can help a shitload if you’re a blocked up a bit
@olliecraig-primalpursuit3 жыл бұрын
Hey Shanen, A lot of info online ( more than I can right into a comment) but as other comment dairy and diet can have big impact. Hold nose at home and practice clearing ears (making that pop feeling) do this on surface before diving then every few meters as you go down as pressure builds. Some people just have problems which you might need to go get checked out at doctors to see if you have nay ear canal issues etc.
@matteo85fab3 жыл бұрын
hey mate learn Frenzel! I have had a year long struggle with equalisation and then frenzel solved most of my issues. It takes a minute to learn but it is a much better technique. Number of instructionals online will help you

Hi, I am 16 years old, and have just got a speargun (Rob Allen 900 scorpio). Do you have any recommendations for wetsuits? I'm on a pretty small budget, and have only just started growing, so don't want to splash out on a flash wetsuit, but told that some cheaper makes like wettie use lower quality neoprene? What would your recommendations be for me to get? Thanks heaps p.s. thanks heaps for the awesome content - inspired me to take up spearfishing
@olliecraig-primalpursuit3 жыл бұрын
Hey mate you could consider a second hand suit but even new suits are pretty cheap these days. As long as the suit is using 39 grade Yamamoto neoprene and better you should be right. Get fitted in a suit which is slightly big for you then you should get a few seasons out of it if still growing
@olliecraig-primalpursuit3 жыл бұрын
Ring the local spearfishing shops and ask them what price they have for a 5mm 2 piece suit to fit you then go from there
@antonibaminaboni3773 жыл бұрын
@Ollie Craig I did that but the cheapest they had was a $410 mares illusion set. Looking at probably buying a wettie reef wetsuit instead online, as it’s only $300. Do you reckon I take the mares or the wettie?

Hey mate, I had a Rob Allen Roller anchor when I was using a widow maker roller head (used to be able to buy these seperately, not sure if still can). Currently only have the one roller gun which is all factory RA. I still just love my traditional setup so prefer mostly to use that and have a roller as backup.
