Wow! That was a nice little cave-shelter you found 😍 I hope I get to taste these Abalones, I guess it was the bashing that made them taste so good.

I was a commercial Abalone diver back in the 1960 till 1966 in California. We processed our Abs out of the shell and sliced then around 3/8 up to 1/2 inch. across. We had a wood mallet around 3 to 4 inch and pounded them out around 1/3rd bigger than there Diameter to about 1/4 of an inch. It takes a while to learn to do a good job.You run you hand over them feeling for hard spots. Red abalone would get up to 9.5 to 10 inch around. The biggest abalone in the world. Of course those days are gone now thanks to the Serra Club and Sea Otters. It give an old guy like me pleasure watch young folks. At 84 you can only look back at the" Good Old Days. Enjoy your life while you can. All the best to you both. Gman

Nice vid but I agree with the "be careful" comments about sandstone cliffs and caves. Don't wanna sound like your mum and dad but I think U were even a bit too close to the edge where you set up, and the caves, well, why take the risk, Ur lives too precious. Take a shade tent instead!
@LifeAdriftAU3 ай бұрын
Hey mate yes we understand the risk but as there was a serious heat wave we were left with little choice, we even had 40deg C at mid night.

A little trick with Green Lip Abbs To make them tender soak them in fresh water for 8 hours. Then shuck them, then slice then thinly place into a bowl of olive oil and garlic. Cook on a hot plate till they just start to curl. I have been diving for them in the South West of WA for years and the Fresh water trick was learnt by accident. It dosnt work with all abbs but 99% of them are tender.
@LifeAdriftAU Жыл бұрын
I have heard about keeping them refrigerated in the shell until they die so they don’t tense up before dieing but unfortunately our little camp fridge doesn’t have the room atm. Great idea with the fresh water mate will try that.
@NTF-fk8en Жыл бұрын
@@LifeAdriftAU another sure fire way to have them melt in your mouth is the blend/purée 3 or 4 kiwi fruit with about half to three quarters of a litre of water and put them in a ziplock bag for 3 hours, rinse off, slice and cook. Don’t leave them overnight or they’ll be mush.

in WA you guys make a confusion : this fish is not a Nannygai ( snapper family) this is a Bight Redfish

This fish was shot in South Australia. We are having a hard time keeping up with what states call the same fish.
