Spears and Munsil 4K Blu-ray - Dolby Atmos Sound Setup.

I take a look at the Spears and Munsil 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray Disc, and see how well I can set up my levels for Dolby Atmos. I discuss using programs like REW to measure sound vs an SPL meter and different ways of measuring with a microphone, and how its position can change the measurements. After getting your speakers measured to 75db is that it? No, the panning test tones (as I show) are essential to getting your speakers properly balanced, especially when sounds go behind you. This disc, along with other tools like the Spatial Audio Calibration Toolkit by Techno-Dad and Joe N Tell, can greatly enhance your system beyond simply measuring 75db and assuming that's all that's necessary. I initially levelled my 5.1.4 setup in REW using the pink random speaker option sending a -30dBFS signal. I then levelled using the spears & munsil disc and noted they were now about +10dB louder. Any idea why there could be such a large discrepancy? The volume on the receiver was set the same for both instances. REW was connected from laptop to receiver. The blu-ray was through a PS5 to receiver.

Was the volume at 100% while using REW?

@@hdmoviesource Are you referring to the receiver volume? It was set to -15 for both tests. I got ~60dB during first level matching in REW, ran the spears bluray and was getting closer to 70dB. Could be a PS5 setting or REW/PC setting I'm missing. Great video btw.

REW may now be accounting to the +1- db increase in volume from the sub channel. This is why I only use spears and munsil for audio balance.

Tough question, because Spears has all the video tests patterns I want, but Spatial has better audio setups.
