Thank you for sharing. I admire Chester Nimitz more than anyone alive today. Spruance is second. So much so that I plan to stop by the GGNC and view their graves on a trip I'm taking. I've been to the War in the Pacific museum in Fredericksburg also. I didn't have an illustrious career like these men, but I enjoyed my years in the Navy, serving in Norfolk, Guantanamo, and Guam, and remember those years often. It was the best thing I ever did.

Great video. Both my parents grew up in S.F. my father’s and his best friend from high school were in the same division serving in the ETO. His friend was KIA in Germany in 1945. His grave is not far from the Nimitz/Spruance graves. Found it by accident when my son was in Sea Cadets and we went out to the cemetery one Memorial Day to find my father’s friend. These National Cemeteries are such a special place

Seth Paridon and Bill Toti are national treasures. I cannot tell you how much it hurts me as a West Point graduate to acknowledge that Captain Toti is a national treasure, but the honor code of our respective alma maters compels me to do so. Keep up the AMAZING work guys. I can't wait for every episode. You are terrific! This epidsode has tears pouring out of my old Army Ranger eyes. I know these men, buried together, are why may family lives free. Thanks Bill. Incredible work.

A humble grave marker, no different than those of the thousands of other service members buried there, many of whom served under him. He requested that.

Captain Toti I have really enjoyed your posts, Pearl Harbor and this one. I feel like you are finally "in your element" so to say. But I always enjoy your interaction with Seth. My dream would be to have a drink with the two of you! Carry On!

Excellent. These are not just heros, men that fought for the ideals of America....the were grandfathers, friends and neighbors. Some could wiggle their ears. I am of the age that these men, and women were my teachers, grandfathers and neighbors.

We should never forget these great men! What a wonderful group of guys. They truly were the greatest men and minds in naval history. They were also really GOOD men! Hopefully someone can renovate Admiral Nimitz’s house. It is a great piece of history that needs to be restored and preserved for generations to come. I would have loved to have had a cup of coffee with admiral Spruance and just talked to him. Thank you Captain Toto! just the conversations make you feel like you wanted to know them.

Bill and Seth: Thank you for creating such a first-rate history broadcast. I consider myself well read about WWII yet your shows demonstrate to me how much more there is to learn. I value your respective knowledge and remembrances of our US and allied veterans. Considering that the people of Japan have been close allies with the US since 1945, your program helps illustrate the vast loss in human life that the Government of Japan subjected upon their people with the military takeover post-WW2. Thank you, Peter-the son of a Marine WW2 combat artillery officer.

I do not get to comment, like, etc. because I listen to the show via Podcast. I wanted to say that I love the show! Bill, we served together on USS Florida, although on opposite crews. I was there 1993 - 1995, made Chief and moved on to USS Michigan.

Great video to two of my Navy heroes. My father served in the Navy during World War II from 1944 through 1946. I served 20 years in the Navy from 1974 through 1994. I'm honored to be a veteran of Desert Storm 🏜 in 1991.

I love this channel! As a retired Navy civilian and Navy veteran who comes from a long line of Navy veterans, I am so grateful for the wonderful research you conduct and the information you provide on this channel. I also have tremendous respect for Admiral Nimitz. I actually grew up across the street from a man who was the son of ADM Nimitz's 1st cousin and he proudly displayed furniture and china in his house that came from the house in Fredericksburg, Texas that Admiral Nimitz lived in when he was young.

It is interesting that you point out admiral Nimitz liked to walk there is a beautiful trail in the Berkeley hills right behind Kensington named after him with beautiful views of San Francisco Bay. Maybe he walked this trail when he lived there

i am going to visit those graves to pay my respects and give thanks to those great American heroes. I have driven past it many times without knowing they are buried there! It is truly a shame that the city of San Francisco is allowing the Nimitz house to fall into a state of disrepair, but San Francisco is not noted for their sense of priorities, are they?

@@UnauthorizedHistoryPacificWar It's Sad to see what's come of Dayton all those rust belt towns really took a hit70's/80's, funny how when you're living somewhere it doesn't seem so bad, not till you get out do you see all the forest (my favorite base Myrtle Beach AFB, now gone).

Much as I'd like to be proven wrong, I think the anti-military sentiment in SF is so broad and reaching to the highest levels of government that I doubt the Nimitz house will receive the needed care and restoration. BTW, I am a decades-long Silicon Valley resident, so I'm not stereotyping.
