Great word for it. I had been following this pattern of thought through NT Wright and others and thought it was all brought together so well in this brief exchange between him and Mark. I think they demonstrated the waters flowing from the temple themselves as the body of Christ should. another single word could be, "Anointed."

The wisdom of Tom never cease to amaze me. We live in a convenient times enriched by C.S.Lewis and Tom. Oh how sorry I feel for the ones who haven´t had a chance to have their faith and hope reinforced by them. Thank you for posting these gems! Best regards from the Czech Republic :)

Hey fleetwd1, have you found anything with Bp Wright addressing Margaret Barker's work? (Hers is the name 'temple theology' brings to mind for me.) *EDIT:* I misspelled Dr. Barker's name. While I'm here again, her work is text-critical by the way; and pretty adventurous, so perhaps not everyone's cup of tea.
@fleetwd1
@fleetwd1 3 жыл бұрын
I have not. Tom has mentioned John Walton in relation to his discussions and writings. i was made aware of it by John as well. We have had speakers who hold text critical positions. So that would not effect me to disregard any positive input. I will look for her to see if i can find anything helpful. thanks for bringing her to my attention. I find temple theology as holding a lot of significance..

Though Margaret Barker's work is at times adventurous, much of it is material that is difficult to argue against. Textual analysis can be as revealing as archaeology.

Yes it gets into many areas of thought. I especially liked the Temple theology aspect for similar content that was a planned lecture titled New Covenant which was done shortly after this impromptu interview that incorporated Mark's contribution of the text from Zachariah with the text from Ezekiel that Tom had in mind of the water flowing from the temple watch this video By the Way He also acknowledges John Walton's contribution to Temple theology who was in the audience at this event. kzbin.info/www/bejne/nGOrpoGJh7eihrM Tom also explains the top reason for disappointment in 2nd temple theology according to a Rabbis list was the missing shekinah glory. I have these two videos playlisted together here kzbin.info/aero/PLMXYWl2o35j91WHeT30DbdHUjWeSpw6jw

i will definitely look into her. I got introduced to it by John Walton explaining how the ancient people would under stand the first creation story in Genesis 1:1-2:3. the 7th day was key to understanding it as Temple literature.

you must not be listening carefully. Tom is very interested in his perspective. The both are feeding on one another and the Spirit is evident to those listening carefully. But your comment is shared by some who do not know how much Tom appreciates Mark.

@@fleetwd1I could be wrong, but I definitely listened carefully. I just noticed Tom was interrupted repeatedly. 20:45-21:05 for instance. I don't mind if they both talk but I just think interruption is bad manners. I'm not calling him the anti-christ lol, just bad mannered in my opinion.

@@bobbuilder5123 This is a friendly back and forth between two people who have great respect for one another. Tom brings up some of what Mark shared that surprised him in a talk about a month or two later. Tom was thinking Mark would think of Ezekiel and yet Mark went to Zachariah instead. Although it surprised Tom he found it significant enough for him to use in dealing with the subject months later. The spirit is not contentious although it can be taken that way. Tom says I am glad you brought this up before they end on this point. Talking over is not a proper attribute but Tom is not distracted by it and it is a friendly dialogue. Both respect one another. Tom has a high regard for Mark who knows he is not in the category of Scholarship with Tom yet Tom finds the interaction beneficial. When viewed as a whole. you can tell they are feeding off of one another spiritually because of the give and take..

The hermeneutic seems equal part "whatever fantasy you want to make up" plus really obvious exegesis from John about Jesus being the meeting place between man and God and by extension the church - though by the looks of things - at this time it's anything but...😖

The more I listen to NT Wright the more I wonder if he knows the Lord. And this not only from his obvious anti_Semitism veiled as what he calls 'transference' theology and his glowing praise of the likes of former Archbishop, a practising Druid who proclaimed there are other ways to salvation than through Christ and LGBT defender Desmond Tutu who said he'd rather burn in he'll than worship a homophobic God. He brings to mind, for example, someone who may be the world's foremost expert on South America, it's flora and fauna, cultures, history, climate etc without ever having set foot there. Too much speculation, too much higher criticism, way to much self-fawning and adulation.

Well, why don't you either stop listening to him altogether, or, alternatively, express your disagreement rather with the merits or otherwise of the actual issues he raises, as opposed to attempting to discredit him through oblique and frankly insulting means?

@phillipsugwas I would thought to any true believer the points I addressed are more than sufficient to warn people off him. And quite right, I have indeed stopped listening to this false teacher, wolf in sheep's clothing.
