Me and my Gisborne NZ Cosmopolitan club mates met Sammy at his Museum in 2007 and he showed us around what he was getting ready for Speed Week, while we were going to the 100th IOM. Still treasure that time thanks Sammy, you're a gent. PS great video.

I really admire Sammy's endless enthusiasm for motorcycles, especially competition motorcycles which includes the history of them. I was in the motorcycle trade for 48 years as a mechanic and I know the work involved in taking a machine from a bare bones state to a correct fully built state. The museum is a credit to Sammy and all who work there.

What a treat to listen to the man himself! This is the best of motorcycle museums, because the main theme is technical innovation and every machine in there runs. After many previous visits, I am determined to go again. Thanks Sammy!

Good on you Sammy, great to see you have retained your in depth knowledge on the history of motorcycle racing. We visited your museum in 1989 and we were blown away with the exhibition. We didn’t want to leave it to go home. I hope you can do more videos like this Norton version on the history of other bike manufacturers. Your knowledge must be recorded as few people have your lifetime experiences.

A place I would get lost in Sammy the great name in motorcycling. I rode trials and ended up buying a Honda TL 250 untouched by the mud, I loved this heavy machine and it was referred to as the boat anchor. I would love to see GOV 132 my hero on two wheels in trials

Excellent video----thank you Sammy for preserving so much interesting history---your crew deserves a ton of appreciation for fettling and restoring these beautiful bikes. If you could ever do a video on the BSA MC-1 and the 1951 Earles BSA 500cc that would make an excellent video. There were many great ideas that never bore fruit due to the conservative nature of the British motorcycle industry.

So enjoyed my tour of this collection two summers past. Visited the "Wheels through time" collection several times through the years, also the Barber museum in Birmingham, Al. USA. When I walked into the Miller collection entrance I had to stop and turn down my hearing aids, the Angles were singing so loud. I had just died and went to Heaven.

What a fantastic man! I met him when He spent time visiting the Ariel Owners stand at an early Belle Vue Classic Bike Show. Somebody, (it may have been me), asked him to pose for a photograph, sitting on an Ariel Leader. Another AOMCC member said " you don't ask God to touch one of those". Sammy said he used to ride one to work at Ariels and thought it was a great little bike! What a gent!

This guy Sammy is hilarious with comments like Garden Gate, same bike but different engine. I witnessed Sammy ten years ago at Spa Francochamp getting off a Guzzi after riding a circuit of the track during a Classic Bike Weekend. He had lost none of his skills. He grabbed his mechanic by his lapels and whispered:"I did it, I did it."

I’ve missed walking around this museum. Is there still the tiny inline 4 crank, rods and piston assembly hanging on the wall on the left as you come in the main door? That used to fascinate me how intricate that was.

Great video and fascinating to listen to. Would love to visit once covid is gone and to chat to Sammy about the rise of Japan and when he saw it coming and why BSA Norton and Triumph didn’t even after visiting Honda.

GREAT footage from the (northwest), i was viewing from the inside of (old hall when this was possible) at OULTON PARK in 1962 i think, when sadly Bob Mac met his untimely end after hitting a tree on the then tree lined avenue, wisely the trees have been removed, (TO LATE SADLY).

The Museum is in New Milton in Hampshire south England. It is a few miles to the east of Bournemouth and there is a Rail Station nearby in New Milton on the South West Trains London Waterloo to Bournemouth line. You will not be disappointed if you visit. I have been several times and have even spoken to The Man himself. He is a real gentleman and a true motorcycling legend. Highly recommended.

Sammy, you didn't show us the F-type Norton! The only other known example is John Surtees' machine - he VERY nearly got to ride that for Norton in 1955, but Gilbert Smith bottled it. My fantasy works Norton is the F-type engine in a chassis based on the Kneeler. If only they had made that and got Surtees to campaign it. It could SO easily have happened.

I absolutely loved going to Artie Bell’s shop opposite Ravenhill Avenue on the Woodstock road after school and drool 🤤 over the motorcycles, especially the Suzuki T250 Hustler in vomit 🤮 metallic green, boy,i loved that wee Suzuki, but that was the year they increased the age of the learner to get up to a250cc bike, i was heartbroken 😔, ended up on a Puch 50cc sports moped, the yellow banana 🍌, grrrrrrrrrrrr, so, on my 17th birthday i got the first Suzuki gt250k in candy apple 🍏 green in Northern Ireland, April of 73, i loved 🥰 that bike , it was fast enough to reach 95mph, and the ton when i took the mirrors off it and lay on the tank with my feet on the rear pegs, sweeeeeet. I have me another one that I’ve restored to show room condition, a complete nut and bolt rebuild and got Soupy the custom painter to spray all the tins, he would charge over a grand today for the same job that cost me £350 about 10 years ago, and worth every Penny, he’s a magician when it comes to paint spraying. Anyoldwho, awesome video Sammy, i hope one day to visit your amazing motorcycle museum. 😎👍👍👍🇬🇧🏍

Hello Mikey Mike, I used to love the shape of the Suzuki T250 Hustler, I aIso ended up buying a GT250 from from Linton's in Ballymena. I now own a 1975 Suzuki T500 which needs some attention, would you know of anymore who could help bring it back to life ?

no its 360 degrees as you have 720degress for the four stoke to go though its four storkes two turns of the crankshaft
@annajeannettedixon2453
@annajeannettedixon2453 3 жыл бұрын
@Joeseph Smith I think I know this Sammy seams to of lost his way and What I have put is the proper way of the combustion cycles all four are activated with 720 degree or two turns of the crankshaft so then a twin-cylinder fires ever 360 degrees you cloth head
@annajeannettedixon2453
@annajeannettedixon2453 3 жыл бұрын
@Joeseph Smith no your wrong a twin fires every 360 degrees as it a vertical twin and the Crankshaft is not set at 180 Degree the same as Hondas are and it's you that an idiot and if I was a stud before you I would knock your block off and I am not afraid of any man

I think Mr Miller was describing what went on to become the normal pushrod camshaft configuration for a 360º twin, i.e. the individual lobes for respective inlet and exhaust valves are 180º from each other on the same camshaft. Not sure why there is disagreement over ignition timing but on a 360º twin, alternate cylinders fire every 360º.
@grahamhaynes4284
@grahamhaynes4284 3 жыл бұрын
@Joeseph Smith Mr Miller was talking about valve camshafts, not ignition cams but regarding ignition cams, I repeat, on a 360º crankshaft twin, each cylinder fires in sequence, every 360º. In other words, the ottoman cycle (720º) for each cylinder is 360º from the other. There are plenty of animations on the net to show this.

In Bert Hopwoods book,he mentions that Joe Craig had no interest in road bikes,only racing? Maybe that attitude was part of their downfall? Trying to make the bikes faster with aerodynamics,whilst using old,single cylinder engines!

We led world in every aspect of engineering. It is an absolute tragedy what has, and is, happened to this country... WHY.. because the people who run this country ( and I'm not talking about the 650 "odd" arseholes in the palace of Westminster) couldn't distinguish the difference between a piston and a piss pot. Until these tractors have been removed we are not going anywhere but down...
