The common theme, do the best you can and never give up. Your mind is your biggest barrier to succeed or fail. Great lessons from great men❤

I think its good to see that the ethos towards both preparation and body functioning is evolving these days. Going over the known routes isnt a new thing of course but I met a bunch of Gurkhas on top of Pen Y fan a few weeks back and had a great chat with them. I was kinda celebrating my 50 years in mountaineering with a trip back to the beacons and a climb on Lundy (regret route) with a couple of Ex Royal good mates of mine including one who had just become the oldest guy to to ski to the south pole unsupported. In my own mind i linked one to the other... Preparation, mind set, anatomy, physiology... to those seeking this challenge? Two words... 'Avoid Injury'

It’s funny to see always the selection process shown as the hills phase. That’s just the initial the weeding out process…the hardest part is the jungle…

I think that was Robin Horsefall and there's plenty of interviews with him on the net. I'm pretty sure if you just type in his name you'll get a result,if not Google him.He also wrote a good book called fighting scared.Hes had a very varied military career.Good luck.😊

Gaz Banford could be one of them. But a lot of people say one of the guys is Paul "Scruff" McGough ,former SBS sergeant, who died in a Para gliding accident a few years ago. But yes, I think Gaz is one of them as there's a few of them and one kind of looks like him even though his face is blurred.

Very interesting, my da was a sergeant major in the Irish army and was on 13 trips overseas. Mostly peace keeping obviously but in a few mad places Kosovo, Bosnia, Somalia etc. Always spoke highly of the brit soldiers even with our troubled history with you's. He always said they were shit hot soldiers meaning very good incase anyone doesn't know that term 😂

I read an ex SNCOs view on selection of selection and the type of guy that SF want and there was no type, a full Regiment of 6ft 6in tall and 4ft wide, muscle bound operator is more of an American thing.. On the same selection course you might get 200 begin the course and 7 get badged at the end, of that 7 guys, one might be a 6ft 3in tall, athletic built good looking thoroughbred, but next to him get a 5ft 5in, stocky built, ugly toad, next to him might be Mr average 5ft 10in, average looking, average build, balding at the front, slightly overweight stomach, some might be 11st racing snakes and some might be naturally large 18st monsters, some might be very quiet, can't get words out of them that isn't about work, they finish work, go home, mow the grass, push the kid on a swing, pay the mortgage and repeat, very few people know this dude, he slips under the radar but hes brilliant at the job, husband, dad ect, but the next guy might be a super sociable guy that everyone knows, he's invited to every party, at every wedding, always the best man, can't go down a street without seeing someone say hi to them but never see him talking about his job, there's the nightmare character on the piss and Mr Tea total, there is no type.. What they all have is something inside that so few people have, that there isn't a name for it.. I think it's a perfect mix of all things, there might be guys that can run faster, swim faster for longer, March harder, carry more weight, know more tactics but the guys in the SF are above average in all those things even if never the best, they are always positive, and take positive action even if not smiley outwardly happy guys, they have a give it a go attitude, and can mix with guys as well as being happy alone.. They are a different breed, a mix of lots of positives and negatives.

Indeed. There are Swedish & Danish troops in hotels around Thetford because they have a 4-year contract to train Ukrainian recruits in the UK !! I know a hotel owner with a 4 year contract so i guess that fake war is not ending any time soon. 500k + Ukrainian casualties so far

A lot of Paras make up the most of the SAS and a lot of Royal Marines make up most of the SBS but not all of them. You can come from any regiment in the British army and any unit in the Royyal Marines etc and go for either. One of the guys in this interview Dean Stott was in 59 Commando Royal Engineers,Army, but he went into the SBS. Just like Ant Middleton was in 59 Commando then left ans rejoined tge R.M a couple of years later then the SBS. When it comes to the SBS it's really just down to if you like the water and are a good swimmer? Because you are in the R.M dosent automatically make you a good swimmer? And because your in the army dosent mean you can't swim. There's been many over the last 10-20 years that have went in the opposite direction. Army to SBS and R.M to the SAS.
