I am so happy for this young man. He is surrounded by love. That’s the way all children and teens should be treated throughout school. But sadly it’s rare. The kids who aren’t “typical” are frequently bullied, excluded and ignored. And that sucks. It really sucks.

@@demekonrn sometimes there are more than tutors. E.g. some programs have people assigned a sort of personal guide to help along going through college. Kinda like a guidance counselor but more personal/active

If you don’t mind me asking, what are executive function challenges? Sometimes the brilliance in kids is harder to access and recognize due to how kids are taught. But it’s there, despite a lower GPA.

​@@MsRotorwings Executive functioning is a broad term that refers to being unable to start/activate/organizations tasks, though i'd recommend you do your own research as well... Personally for me as a teen with a learning disability it means I struggle with actually starting the task that I need to do, planning and generally structuring my thoughts. I had to learn how to do things through a different process to my peers because I just could not follow the way they were doing it and understand it like they did. I thank you for recognizing that we aren't just dumb, it really means a lot because growing up I thought I was just born stupid but it turns out that the education system generally can't be an effective one size fits all approach :') Even writing this paragraph is testament to how great an alternative approach to my education has been. As you said, it is harder to access the talents we may have, largely because the challenges we face in corresponding what we want to do with real action taken

@@dylan4142 for sure the school system constantly fails kids. My sister, cousin and friend are teachers, and it breaks their heart every time a kid doesn’t get what they need because of the system. That’s why I’m a strong supporter of having options, private school, homeschool, tutors, online programs, etc. Every child has something they are really good at. It just needs discovering and nurturing. Like Einstien said, “if you judge a fish by it’s ability to climb a tree you will always be blind to it’s own gifts and talents.” (Paraphrasing here, but that’s the message. ). You have something wonderful to share with the world. Always remember that. :)

He’s been on all of my Special Olympics teams since the beginning of my Special Olympics career. He’s been on The Special K’s his whole life, and it’s amazing to watch him react to his acceptance letter from a University he’s told me he always wanted to go to. Steven is the man!!

I heard her, and yes- she loves him dearly. My son is blessed with similar teachers here. They've all in one way or another this year cried because my son is graduating and they're going to miss him. I'm going to keep in contact with them so they can see how he is doing as a young man. He loves them too.

And if he’s a minor you’re walking a fine line bc I even thought about contacting the school & seeing if they’d simply pass along my information to his parents but again, fine line bc they can’t give out any info Edit: By social media I mean KZbin & Facebook & I checked Google I don’t have things like TikTok 😂
