All parent/guardian figures are important. Mom's, dad's, adopted parents, foster parents, step parents, legal guardians.. Literally all of them. @@itsnotthatdeep6657 unfortunately based on the studies father's being in the home is in decline and it is having devastating effects. Grandparents raising children is also statistically been shown to cause some struggles with children too. The ideal situation is having both mom and dad together to raise their children. But you are correct, having a loving and stable home with caregivers is the ultimate goal when there isn't a mom and dad who can do it. But father's are very important whether we want to acknowledge it or not. My kids father is here to push my children to be tough and to handle adversity in life. I am here to kiss their boo-boos and hold them when they cry. The duality of how we approach parenting gives our children a balance that I know I would struggle with alone. My nature is different than his and we both have our strengths. ❤️

Clean since 4 years and recovered and always was a decent person thanks to my mother. But the effects of a missing father... like you said - devastating. But at least, i know what abyss can lay beneath the surface of life, and if i have kids one day, i will never do the same mistake like he did

I'm able-bodied, but got to try using my uncle's chair to see what he deals with on an average day - ramps are insanely tough to get up without rolling backward, doors with self-closing hardware and no auto push buttons are a nightmare, and surfaces with loose materials like gravel and potholes are like trying to row through a desert! I now work in accessible architecture design, and we look to improve on building standards to reduce and eliminate obstacles for all people. All these things we take for granted being gifted with a full range of motion and nothing like hearing, vision, or other sensory conditions can make environments pretty hostile to those living with them. You really do have to be strong in order to navigate the world. I commend you for having the upper body strength to operate a manual chair - not everyone can!

Dude that kid is tiny of course he would gave difficulty going up a small incline along with a slightly elevated entrance frame into the threshold. You could have ramped the threshold out a little and shows him how to get a little speed and momentum when approaching the door . Maybe with age and a lil time the boy will gain some muscle than he’d make it no problem , but no no way come on dude. She’s because your some fitness instructor with a disabled son that wanted a video that bosses your ego by showing people a motivational video . Could have done a small disable kid ramp and than motivated the young guy, steadied of making him strain him self over and over just to make you proud and make you video. Poor kid .
@silenceisgoldn
@silenceisgoldn Жыл бұрын
No, not poor kid, like you say. Because of his dad, family...this is the blessed kinda kid who is growing up into a well-equipped young man, who will be prepared for a world that does not care or cater to his specific needs, so he will get it done himself because his family prepared him the life he chooses to live-kinda kid. In the real world, this boy will not always have a ramp or the help of his dad or family with him to help him navigate something that he is capable of learning to do for himself. If you think this is about the dad ego, your outta your mind and do not know what you're looking at and you have no idea what it means to be a responsible parent to a child, with or without a disability...It's no different. Would you carry a child thru a doorway if they could walk?? No. Why then would you do something different for a disabled child when he is capable of learning to do it for himself?? 🤔 You are creating soft people, victims, people who lack self-esteem, confidence and conviction and I genuinely wish you wouldn't.😊 I realize it's unintentional but that's the outcome you will get. I am not guessing at this. I know this. This dad is building self-esteem, dignity, confidence, stamina, physical and emotional strength-- this boy will grow into a young man who will know that he can do for himself, who understands his worth and because of his father, he will knows he can accomplish whatever, whenever he puts his mind, body, heart and soul into...handicapped or not--it's no different. This is a gift from his dad and what your selling is harmful. A small piece of proof...the pure joy and delight from both the boy and the dad when he succeeded. That's not ego, my friend. That's love!! Have you heard the saying?? (I'm paraphrasing). ---Give a man a fish, feed him for the night. Teach a man to fish, feed him for life!

I love that he didn't make adaptions to the door frame, this allowed him to fight through, which is hugely important for him. Life outside of home isn't adapted to suit everyone. You naturally want to make your children's life easier, but encouraging them like this is the game changer. Wholesome video ❤ to your family.

As an occupational therapist, I agree! It's really difficult to watch our patients struggle but they need to overcome real life challenges ❤

@d a r l i n g J o - The idea is this: if he gets used to a fully adapted house and doesn't learn how to cope in non-adapted homes, it will limit his life significantly. By learning at home, he doesn't get embarrassed- he learns in a safe environment. Once that confidence is built up, he won't worry when his friends invite him over, or if he needs to go somewhere with minimal adaptations (there are no steps, so this would be considered a wheelchair accessible building - knowing how to overcome door frames like this will stop his panicking when he comes across one on his own/without his parents). It stops him hiding himself away at home and thinking that's the only place he can go, and gets him to problem-solve his way through life. In short, it's about giving him a mindset that stops his disability from limiting him as much as it could. When it comes to his disability, his Dad is getting him to focus on the "ability" part, not the "dis" part. Think of it like pushing a kid to win a race, rather than just giving him a participation trophy.

@d a r l i n g J o I personally wouldn't choose to not make changes to make my child's life easier. However, I see their point. It's one of the reasons why Nigerians that grew up in Nigeria do so well in the West. They've been through so much.
