I have seen the EF50 used in a few Australian made radios. I have a radio made by KGH Titan using one as an I.F. and reflexed A.F. amplifier. I've also seen one used as an I.F. amplifier in a radio made by a company called Reliance. I've even seen one used as an audio output valve in a tiny 3 valve TRF, which may have been made by KGH Titan. I restored that set, and it worked quite well. I'm sure there are others.

In the immediate post war period most U.K. companies only produced goods for export.

Got a few pye radios knocking around but I bet they won't have EF50s, a very interesting valve if you remove the screening can.

Wow, I must say, as a timid enthusiast, I find it quite unsettling the way you always put the lights off when initially testjng dodgy apparatus. To me, I could not do so, as a bang or a flash would be much more pronounced. And you would not see smoke. All in the name of checking the heaters. You are just waiting to get your head blown off (too close) by exploding caps. Thaf old video on a salora colour portable was typical. I always turn towards the front of the apparatus when doing this. The bravado of just switching on was commendable. I would have cold checked thing like fuses, wiring, switches and heater continuity at least beforehand. I watch all your stuff like this in anticipation of a big bang. The older they are, the worse they can bite. And cause fires. The only fire I would have been seeing would be the bonfire it was sitting on after I burned it due to that woodworm! You and Michael Dranfield bring back the memories 👍👍

Experience is the difference, it was powered up in a controlled way. I'm not total darkness either. I'm glad that you enjoy the videos and Michael's as well.

Any idea where this radio came from?

@@rodsradios No, unfortunately not. I'm looking forward to hearing how it performs. I've never seen an EF50 in a domestic radio before.
